NO: Never take a "lot more now" so the medicine will work faster. That will never happen. The time it takes a medicine to work is based on the intrinsic properties of the medicine itself. Taking a lot now will only put you at risk for serious side effects from too high a dose. ...Read more

May need suppression: If you are having outbreaks twice a month despite using Valtrex (valacyclovir) pills and ointment when you first feel an outbreak starting, you probably need to take Valtrex (valacyclovir) or another pill on a daily basis to try and suppress the outbreaks. Cold sores: The cold sores are caused by one of the herpes viruses, either type i or type ii. The second was considered just genital but you can be infected in any location by either. The treatment is similar for both and the virus will often come back again sometime in the future.
