Is Valtrex (valacyclovir) or zovirax better for cold sores?

Is Valtrex (valacyclovir) or zovirax better for cold sores?

Either: I'm assuming you're talking about oral Valtrex (valacyclovir) and zovirax (not zovirax cream). Both are effective, but Valtrex (valacyclovir) is more convenient, because it doesn't have to be taken as frequently. My favorite way to treat cold sores is to have the patient take 2 grams of Valtrex (valacyclovir) at the very first sign of an outbreak, and then 2 grams 12 hours later. That two-dose course will shorten the duration of infection. ...Read more

Which is better Valtrex (valacyclovir) and or zovirax for cold sores?

Both work well!: Everyone responds differently to different anti-viral medications! i usually start by prescribing zovirax (acyclovir) and see how a person responds! i often have the patient take 5 capsules a day and also have them apply the ointment to the lesion topically! if that doesn't help, we'll try valtrex! ...Read more

I have heard that Valtrex (valacyclovir) is good for getting rid of cold sores. Is there a better alternative?

Unfortunately,: non of the antiviral agents available to fight the herpes simplex virus eradicates the virus. They make outbreaks shorter and less uncomfortable. Try to start a log and record what may trigger you to get an outbreak, then start by avoiding, e.g., tomatoes, strawberries, a.s.o. ...Read more

Hello I recently broke out with 2 cold sores within 2wks time my doc prescribed me valtrex . the last one came out this mon a yellow crust is on top o?

Oral herpes Rx: It's unusual for oral herpes to recur as often as every 2 weeks. Maybe one or the other outbreak was something else? "Yellow crust" could indicate a bacterial infection with staph or strep. The proper valacyclovir (Valtrex) treatment of recurrent cold sores is two large doses (2 grams) 12 hours apart, at the first sign of a new outbreak. ...Read more

Should I take lysine for my chronic cold sores? If so, as treatment or to prevent? Dosage? Currently take Valtrex (valacyclovir) and use Abreva.

Pay attention: Abreva does very little, not worth the money. l-Lysine is an old scam: it did nothing 40 years ago and it does nothing now. Simple understanding of biochemistry of amino acids is enough to dispel this silly scam. See a dermatologist. Are you sure it is herpes? Valacyclovir can be helpful if dosed properly and is safe. Usual dose is 2gram at very first prodromal symptoms of each attack. Sometimes d ...Read more
