Valium Xanax Klonopin Affect Male Fertility
Valium (diazepam) is an older benzodiazepine tranquilizer. It was the #1 prescribed drug (of any kind) in the us in the late 1960s but is used less now due to drug interactions and active metabolites. It is still used for anxiety and as "pre-medication" for uncomfortable medical and minor surgical procedures. It is habit-forming, should not be used with alcohol, ...Read more
Is it safe (non lethal) to have 2 drinks with 0.5mg Klonopin? I've done it several times. Is Valium safer than say Xanax (alprazolam) w/regards to having 2 drinks?
None are good: None of these are good to mix w/ alcohol. It may never kill you, but it's not safe and depending on other variations in your input (diet, illnesses, state of general health) it may suddenly be more risky. Talk frankly w/ your Dr and consider quitting drinking while you need the drug treatment. Talk therapy is am option and CBT helps anxiety mgmt best! ...Read more
I'm a huge dental phobic. Was given 10mg Valium but it didn't help. I heard Xanax (alprazolam) or percocet works better. Is this true? Which is better. Help!
Best plan of action: If you're a dental phobic, this would be my personal recommendation. Start by finding a well respected dentist in your area that caters to patients with dental phobias. Call the offce just for a consultation. Discuss your fears & have that dentist suggest appropriate ways to deal with having your dental treatment done. Please don't listen to friends or try to find the answers via the internet. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I'm on 5mg Valium 3x per day for anxiety. I had a panic attack today and had 2 Valium + a xanax (alprazolam). Now i can't sleep - would having another 10mg be okay?
How often do you see paradoxical reactions to Valium and xanax (alprazolam)? Is it often or infrequent
Not very common: A paradoxical reaction to a med is one that causes the opposite of usual expected effect. In a benzodiazepine it would be anxiety, insomnia, over-stimulation or agitation. If this occurs, one would suspect an unidentified underlying problem as associative cause (such as bipolar disorder, thyroid disease, drug abuse). In any case, discontinuation would be indicated & a search for other causes made. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I don't have health insurance aside from VA coverage. They don't prescribe what's worked in the past. Can you help me get Xanax (alprazolam) or Valium for my anxie?
No, I can't: Benzodiazepines, most of us feel, should NOT be the primary treatment for anxiety in the majority of people, and actually makes things worse in a lot of people, including producing abuse and addiction. The primary treatment of anxiety is psychotherapy, and the primary medication should be an antidepressant, most of which will also work for anxiety without the problems of benzos, but takes more time ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Benzos and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) : First i need to question doses of xanax and valium and why you are taking 2 different benzodiazepines. Most people do not realize xanax is about 10x more potent than valium. So i don't see 25mg of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) as the primary issue. Do u have 2 different practitioners rx benzos? If so have only 1 captain running your ship & rxing meds. Discuss this with your rxing practitioner. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Minor: Grapefruit juice inhibits the liver enzymes that break down certain medicines, resulting in a small increase in the medicine's effect. This definitely occurs with valium; there is some uncertainly whether it affects xanax (alprazolam) as much, or at all. It takes a lot of grapefruit juice (at least a pint, probably more) to have this effect. Tell your doc if you drink lots of grapefruit juice regularly. ...Read more
Correct!: Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can interfere with your body's breaking down medicines like xanax (alprazolam) and valium. They could build up in your system, making you drowsy or having other side effects. Avoid grapefruit juice and grapefruit-containing foods while on these medicines. You can enjoy orange juice, though! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What your Dr prescr: Prescribes. The decision regarding the dose of any medication like this is extremely personalized. People have tolerances to this class of medication all across the board. As physicians we try to provide just enough to treat the symptoms while adding in an antidepressant that has been antianxiety effect as well as psychotherapy. We try to keep the dose as little as possible and the treatment as short as possible with the realization that there are people who require extremely low dose short-term treatment and others who require the opposite.Severity of the anxiety interestingly does not always predict dose response. Some people with high anxiety get by on low doses and some people with relatively low anxiety require higher doses. This is why the practice of psychopharmacology is so individualized. ...Read more
Have been tapering down from 1.5mg of Xanax (alprazolam) down to approx. .20mg experiencing insomnia and increase anxiety should I switch to 5mg of Valium or continue my taper w xanax (alprazolam). Because vali is long lasting?
I need a tapering seclude for getting off 40mg valium,2mg Xanax,800mg Morphine, and 40mg IR Oxycodone The VA has had me on them 30yrs 365 24/7?
Talk to your doctor: Why not speak to your prescribing physician in order to have a tapering schedule taking into account your past medical history, rationale for being on these medications, and overall health status? Without these details, it is difficult at best to be able to provide a way to address this issue. Strongly suggest you speak to your local doctor regarding this. ...Read more
Paradoxical reaction: Some people do experience agitation or arousal in response to benzodiazepines, including diazepam/valium & alprazolam/xanax. Sometimes this is because of partial sedation or loss of focus, which can be upsetting; this should improve with dose reduction. Sometimes it is due to impaired ability to read/respond to your surroundings, which can be frightening. ...Read more
Short vs long acting: Xanax (alprazolam) works for shorter periods, typically 4-6 hours, while valium works for 12-16 hours. Both are in the class of medications known as benzodiazepines, which work by increasing the effect of gaba, the generally inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. ...Read more

Alprazolam is a short acting benzodiazepine, it does not last long in the system .
