On 500 mg of Valtrex (valacyclovir) daily and still getting outbreaks, does this indicate that the virus is resistant to the medication or should I increase to 1g?

No: Taking Valtrex (valacyclovir) does not change the test results for the usual STD tests, including HIV tests. Herpes tests are usually blood tests (unless the doctor is swabbing or scraping the actual skin lesion for a culture). If a patient is already on an anti-herpes drug like Valtrex (valacyclovir), the skin lesion culture might be harder to get a positive result from, but the blood tests results should be accurate. ...Read more
Started Valacyclovir yesterday, had fever of 102 since yesterday, moderate-severe back/neck pain, headache, muscle weakness. Is there another medication I could try?
