Not really: Vaginismus is a involuntary muscular contraction in response to stimuli. It is like a nervous tic, that closes the "vaginal door" making entry more difficult if not impossible. Dilators used by the patient herself help to open the vaginal opening and more importantly allow accommodation and relaxation. Her fingers, not yours also work. May "add" a doctor: Trying another physician is sometimes the only good alternative, so one should always buy the type of insurance that allows one to see any doctor in town. One can also see another doctor for just the vaginismus problem, without switching away from the current doctor. Many possibilities.: Pelvic floor physical therapy combined with topical anesthetic or a tricyclic antidepressant is a great first line therapy. Their are other medications that can be used. Often trial and error. Local injection of the area can be helpful. Their are other solutions besides dilators. Can be a complex issue. Hope this helps. ...Read more
