Vaginal Odor After Hysterectomy
I've had a vaginal odor since my partial hysterectomy with no std diagnosis or exposure. Is there something I can take to re-balance my environment?
Bacterial vaginosis?: The main cause of strong vaginal odor, sometimes with discharge, is bacterial vaginosis, an overgrowth of mostly normal vaginal bacteria. Hysterectomy might trigger it. The doctor who did your hysterectomy undoubtedly has a lot of experiecne with BV. Contact her for advice on diagnosis and treatment. I had a vaginal hysterectomy 3 weeks ago. Had my uterus and cervix removed. I have an unpleasant odor and light brown discharge is it normal?
Possibilities: Bacterial vaginosis can cause a “fishy” smell. Other possibilities include std’s like gonorrhea, trichomoniasis & chlamydia or pelvic inflammatory disease. If there is a retained tampon or a lack of proper vaginal hygiene those are potential causes. Yeast is usually odorless but is still a possibility. Odor: Vaginal odor ( other than from poor hygiene) is usually due to abnormal bacterial growth in the vagina. It is not a dangerous problem but is certainly a bother. It might cause increased body secretions and this probably gives some odour.
One other thing to consider is the possibility of an infection causing the odour, especially if there are other symptoms with it.
