Can I take vitamins during an antibiotics treatment with penicillin? Can you tell me a first aid for penicillin allergic reaction ? Thank you :) Carol

Yes, and see below: So yes you can take vitamins while on antibiotics. The rationale is that when you go on system antibacterial agents like that you wipe out healthy flora in your gut and elsewhere. Vitamins, pro-vitamins and growth factors are synthesized by bacterial carpets (ie some B vitamins, riboflavin, thiamine, co-enzyme I & II and pyridoxine to name several). For PCN allergy; benadryl & epinephrine. ...Read more

No: Nausea and vomiting are unfortunate side effects of antibiotics. Doxycycline is one of the antibiotics that can commonly have that side effect in some people. Make sure that you do not mention it as an allergy but rather side effect since it could limit useful antibiotics used commonly for various infections. ...Read more

Condoned: Penicillin is still the first line treatment for syphilis. The most effective treatment for syphilis is not to get it, use a condom. The more often you get it, the greater your risk for antibiotic resistance. Also, with this being your third episode, you are now at high risk of contracting chlamydia and HIV. You need to get tested for those too. Stop playing Russian roulette with your life. ...Read more

See below: Persons with type 1 immediate hypersensity to penicillin antibiotics should generally avoid taking cephalosporin antibiotics because of the low but real risk of cross allergenicity. Safe alternative antibiotics include vancomycin, septra, macrolides, tetracyclines, aztreonam, clindamycin, zyvox, quinolones etc. ...Read more
