Uti Won T Go Away With Antibiotics
My UTI won't go away? I've been on two different antibiotics but I still have this thing. Would a urine culture be my best bet?
Urine culture always: Culture with sensitivities is always advisable as part of optimal management of UTIs. This both identifies type of bacteria causing UTI & which antibiotics will be either effective or not. Meaning whether bacteria are sensitive or resistant to specific antibiotics. You certainly should get urine culture if not yet obtained. ...Read more

Friend has a "raging" UTI that won't go away has been on numerous antibiotics as well as in the hospital twice. What other options are there?
UTI Infection: This is a difficult question to answer because I don't know if a urine culture was taken before you started treatment and because you did not indicate what antibiotic you are taking. I would suggest you check with your physician to order a urine culture and sensitivity. That way the most appropriate antibiotic can be prescribed. ...Read more
I have a UTI that won't go away I did a culture an it said ecoli my gyno gave me cipro (ciprofloxacin) didn't work. My urine still looks cloudy and soapy he told me to comeback he will put me on long term antibiotic?
Probably not a UTI: If repeated course of antibiotics have not relieved the symptoms then it may not be a UTI or there may be a reason why the infection is hard to treat. You should consult with a Urogynecologist or female urologist. I hope this helps. ...Read more
Possible: If the UTI is attacked head on with forced fluids and you have a good immune response, it is possible to flush out the bactreia in the bladder and the body wins the battle. I would not count on this. If you have burning, pain, frequency of urination, need to go immediately, and cerainly if fever, back pain, nausea, chills or vomiting, get seen right away for a proper diagnosis and treatment. ...Read more

How many days after finishing antibiotics does it take for UTI symptoms to go away? I felt soreness go away but now it's back.
See doctor: Where is your soreness? Abdomen or back? Were you originally tested for a UTI, or was it diagnosed over the phone/by history. Usually your symptoms should improve by the time you finish your antibiotic course. If symptoms return, you may be resistant to the antibiotic, or it is not a UTI. I'd recommend seeing your doctor and consider getting a urine culture. Best wishes. ...Read more

Still have uti after two different antibiotic treatments? Batrim & Doxycycline. Lots of lower pelvic pain. Ct was all clear. Why won't this go away?
Probably not UTI: UTI bacteria can be resistant to a wide range of antibiotics. It would be unusual for it to be resistant to both Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) and doxycyline, but possible. But more likely something other than UTI is causing your symptoms, and UTI doesn't usually cause pelvic pain. Colitis? Fallopian tube infection (PID, if at risk for STD)? . Appendicitis? Diverticulitis? Return to doc or get 2nd opinion. ...Read more

? Wrong antibiotics: Germs causing a UTI or bladder infection, which is the most common type of uti, were likely resistant to antibiotic prescribed. You need antibiotics: There are many options to treat UTI. Even when the bacteria causing it are resistant to some antibiotics, usually there are a few options, and not all of them are expensive. Discuss this with the doctor treating you to find an acceptable option. Some UTIs will clear up on their own, but "severe" suggests kidney involvement, fever, etc. Don't take the chance; this could be very dangerous. ...Read more

Very unlikely: The antibiotics are not a probable cause for prolonging your reaction to bcps (if that is what it is). If the nausea was due to the bcps it will probably disappear in a month or so. If, however, you are having thoughts of suicide you need to go asap to a psychiatrist and have this assessed before you do something which will be regretted. Go now. Do not wait.
