Using Opk How Do Know What Day Ovulated
Difficult to say: If your cycles are irregular, it is difficult to predict ovulation. We can retrospectively tell when ovulation occurred by counting back from your menses. Your menses will always start 14 days after ovulation. It is the 1st half of the cycle that varies. Of course if you are irregular, you may not be ovulating each month. See your gyn for an evaluation and treatment. Best of luck! ...Read more
Regular cycles?: A woman with very regular periods can estimate her ovulation day this way: mark on a calendar when her next period will begin (that means mark the first day of her next period), and just look back 2 weeks to see her estimated day of ovulation. So, if her next period will start on january 28, then january 14 is her estimated ovulation day. The estimate is +/- 2 days (life is not exact). ...Read more
Day 14-15: Counting the first day of menstrual flow as day 1, most women with regular cycles ovulate on day 14-15. Irregular cycles are much tougher to time prospectively. Best solution is to consider fertility medications to help regulate cycles, using ultrasound to time ovulation. Shorter cycles can indicate problems with ovarian reserve or with the uterus, and should be discussed with an expert. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
You don't: Calculators make assumptions that everybody ovulates and that everybody has periods every month. However, this may not necessarily be the case. Calculator will just give you an ovulation date 2 weeks prior to your menses. To be certain that you actually ovulate, you should purchase an opk and use it as directed, generally start testing ~ day 10 if you have regular periods. ...Read more
Use ovulation tests: The easiest are the urine tests for detection od the hormone lh! which causes the release of an egg. Over the past several years i've had my patients use the ovwatch because it predicts ovulation 5 days before the event. Available from my office 914-722-9300 or from amazon. In your case ovulation probably occurs earlier than day 14. ...Read more
Simple math: Subtract 14 days from your average cycle length and this is the approx day of ovulation. Women with 30 days cycles ovulate around day 16 women with 25 day cycles around day 11. Use an OPK kit: If you have regular cycles use an ovulation predictor kit (opk) - test between 10 am and noon, starting on day 10 of your cycle. The first morning urine is not accurate. Try the ovuquick brand (available online, get the 9 stick pack) if a drugstore test doesn't work for you. The day of a positive test and the next 2 days are your most fertile days. If you have irregular cycles see a rei specialist. ...Read more
Not accurate: Online calculators make lots of assumption. First they assume that you ovulate, which is not the case for all women. Then they either assume that your periods are exactly 28 days apart or that you ovulate exactly 14 days before your next period. A better way is to use over the counter ovulation prediction kits which will help you know when exactly you are ovulating and time intercourse ...Read more

Day 20-21: Normal cycles range from every 21 days to every 35 days. Most women ovulate approximately 14 days prior to the start of a new cycle. So if you cycle every 35 days, you are most fertile around day 21. If you cycle every 28 days, you are most likely fertile around day 14. Simply take the lengths of your cycle and subtract 14 to calculate your most fertile time. ...Read more
Best practice: The best predictor of when ovulation occurs is a spike in basal body temperature. Women who are attempting to track their ovulation often take their temperature first thing in the morning at the same time every day for a few cycles. Another reliable way, of course, are ovulation predictor kits that you can buy at the drugstore. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Depends on app: Well if you are using an app, it will just tell you. However these tools basically assume that everyone has periods every 28 days and ovulates on day 14.
