What happens if you started taking Monistat but then find out you don't actually have a yeast infection?
A few ideas: Sometimes a 3 day course isn't sufficient. I typically always recommend a 5 or 7 day course to my patients... Only because of just this circumstance, the 3 day doesn't work. It's also possible you don't have yeast infection. You can either see doctor for re-evaluation, or try an additional course and see if that relieves your symptoms. OK to re-treat: You might just wait a couple of weeks. If "90% better", it is likely your symptoms will clear entirely. If not, you can treat again. If still doesn't clear entirely, you'll need to get professional care. But why so concerned about oral treatment (e.g. Diflucan)? Resistant strain?: Some yeasts are resistant to the "azole" group of drugs, which includes fluconazole and miconazole (Monistat). Since your yeast didn't clear with either of these, probably you need a different treatment by prescription (e.g. nystatin). Or maybe you have something other than yeast.
