Using Methadone To Get Off Oxycodone
Maybe: Suboxone, or the drug contained there in is called: Buprenorphine (bupe). Bupe is also an opiate but is different from methadone. Neither is a cure for opiate addiction. Both are considered opiate replacement therapy. You must see a dr who is able to prescribe bupe. Look up the "buprenorphine physician locator" on line to find a dr near you. It can be tricky switching from Methadone to bupe. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I was put on Suboxone in order to stop prescribed oxycodone for pain. How long should it take to get off Suboxone?
Probably not: It is much less complicated to transition from suboxone to Methadone than from Methadone to suboxone. To move from Methadone to suboxone the patient must be on 30 mg of Methadone or less. There is still a risk of suffering symptoms of withdrawal when transitioning from Methadone to suboxone. The use of suboxone to avoid withdrawal from Methadone is preferable to stopping Methadone abruptly. ...Read more
With medical help: Depends on how much hydrocodone you are taking, and for what. If there is a pain problem, it will usually be necessary to find other ways to treat the pain. Short-acting drugs like hydrocodone are very hard to come off because of their short half-life, and substituting longer acting opioids (like Buprenorphine and methadone) is the way doctors usually help people off these meds. ...Read more

What to do if i had 50 vicodin a day and they put me on methadone to get offquestion is methadone can stop vicodin but can vicodin stop methadone.?
Unsure I understand: Methadone is used to serve 3 basic purposes. The first one is to replace with an equivalent dose of opioid so that the person doesn't experience withdrawal (being dope sick). The 2nd purpose is to get the dose up to a point where the individual is not feeling craving. The 3rd is to produce so much tolerance that doses of other opiates (like hydrocodone) really don't do much. So people stop using. ...Read more

Some guidelines: You should not try this on your own, rather, you need an experienced practitioner to help make the switch. It can be quite tricky. The guidelines are to be on 30 mgs of Methadone or less for at least one week, then completely off Methadone for at least another week. The Methadone remains in one's system for three weeks, so the suboxone needs to be started at a low dose and increased very slowly. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Go slow, work w doc: 1. A slow, gradual dose taper is best. Go especially slowly as you approach zero. This can take weeks in tough cases. 2. Decrease the daily dose, don't stretch out the time between doses. 3. Sometimes it helps to substitute a different benzo (or phenobarbital) that has a longer half-life. 4.
