Using extra virgin olive oil in skincare? What does it help with?

Using extra virgin olive oil in skincare? What does it help with?

Some protection: Extra virgin oil doesn't have any proven healing properties above other oils . That said, you can relieve dryness and some superficial irritation temporarily with oil on your skin. Lena horne, who was one of the classic beauties of our time once said that she never washed her face and only applied olive oil to her lovely complexion every night. I think she was just blessed with great genes. ...Read more

Tea tree oil mixed with my cleanser helps me with my papules. Can I mix it with an oil combination (Vit E and Jojoba oil) to make it more effective ?

The joke is on you: Not one of these things has any effect on acne. In fact they are all a WASTE OF MONEY. By "papules" you may be referring to acne. There are effective treatments for acne. They really work. The main problem is that they must not be used during pregnancy or nursing. A dermatologist can help you. Meanwhile you can try 2 1/2% or 5% benzoyl peroxide gel, which might help after 2 or 3 months. ...Read more

Does olive oil go bad? Is it okay to use expired olive oil for skin or hair? Thank you!

Does olive oil go bad? Is it okay to use expired olive oil for skin or hair? Thank you!

All biologically: derived cooking oils (particularly "healthy" polyunsaturated or monounsaturated oils) have the potential to "go bad." This process is called rancidity. Because rancid oils have an unpleasant odor (and taste), I don't recommend their use for cooking or cosmetic purposes. By contrast, most "baby oils" are a combination of mineral oil & fragrance & don't go bad. Hope this is helpful info! ...Read more

Can I use coconut oil for ear wax softener and blockage? I don't have olive oil so it ok to use coconut oil?

Can I use coconut oil for ear wax softener and blockage? I don't have olive oil so it ok to use coconut oil?

Should be fine: Coconut oil is safe to use and should help soften the wax. However, for loosening the wax and removing blockage, using hydrogen peroxide followed by flushing with water is recommended. See http://www.earthclinic.com/cures/ear-wax-removal-home-remedy.html#h2o2 for a discussion of using hydrogen peroxide to remove ear wax. ...Read more

Does olive oil extra virgin and pure coconut oil penetrate hair shaft? Are these oils even worth it to condition & strengthen hair/scalp?

Does olive oil extra virgin and pure coconut oil penetrate hair shaft? Are these oils even worth it to condition & strengthen hair/scalp?

Perhaps: Oils do indeed penetrate the skin. Many things penetrate the skin. Indeed, some say that you should not put anything on your skin you are not willing to eat or drink, including your makeup n rubbing alcoh. I do not know about conditioning and strengthening hair, but these oils will penetrate any skin, and coconut oil is good for you--even as a lotion for your skin. wwwlblatmanhealthandwellness.com ...Read more

I use carrot oil on my face to look healthy and have a good tan. It s maceration oil not essential oil. Any bad effect or sides for health ?

I use carrot oil on my face to look healthy and have a good tan. It s maceration oil not essential oil. Any bad effect or sides for health ?

Contains myristicin: Carrot seed oil contains myristicin which is also contained in nutmeg and can cause psychosis. It is thought, however, that the small amounts of myristicin absorbed is unlikely to cause the delirium, disorientation, and hallucinations that can be caused by ingesting larger quantities. However, there is a caveat in that this has never actually been tested. So, if you use this, be aware. ...Read more

Please tell me will mixing almond oil and neutrogena oil free acne wash redness relief with aloe and chamomile be a bad idea?

Please tell me will mixing almond oil and neutrogena oil free acne wash redness relief with aloe and chamomile be a bad idea?

Get serious: The neutrogena wash is salicylic acid 2% and this has maybe a 50% chance to clear you. The other stuff probably won't touch your acne and will just confuse you if you do get a response. Use the salicylic acid for two weeks -- as much as you can stand. If you're not clear by then, get with your physician. ...Read more

Is it safe during pregnancy to use castor oil topically on your face to help with acne? More specifically, i'd like to use cold pressed castor oil.

Is it safe during pregnancy to use castor oil topically on your face to help with acne? More specifically, i'd like to use cold pressed castor oil.

Poor choice: Why use an ancient, not-very-effective folk medicine promoted by charlatans? The best over-the-counter acne remedy is benzoyl peroxide, but if it's bugging you enough to consider "cold-pressed" castor oil, see if your physician would add topical Clindamycin to peroxide. The birth control pill stops acne in many women who can use it, and there are other stronger rx's after baby comes. ...Read more
