It is the byproduct of what we eat and drink.
If you eat a lot of garlic, the urine MAY have a garlic odor. Some people may have a discernible sense of smell, hence can notice /pick-up any variation in color of smell of urine.

Urine or vaginal?: Strong smelling urine usually isn't abnormal, generally due to eating strongly flavored foods. If so, it should improve with diet change and drinking lots of fluids. May be nothing: It may be nothing, and just a consequence of excreting a metabolite of something you ate the night before. Concentrated urine sometimes will have peculiar smells.
