Kidney recovery: Wow. Her kidneys may be improving ! Optimal diet for her includes modest protein portions, about 4 oz daily, low dairy, low bean, low salt, low sugar, low saturated fat and low cholesterol. More precisely, 40-60 gram protein, 800 mg phosphate, 2000 mg sodium, 2000 mg potassium, and 1800-2000 calorie ADA diet. ...Read more

What diseases could be related with low urinary output, when creatinine, BUN and urine analysis including proteins and clearance are normal? Many thank

Be more specific?: Something's wrong here. Urinary output parallels fluid intake from all sources. If you drink more water, and your kidney function is reasonably normal, you pee more. If you're not drinking much, and it's a hot day and you're sweating, your urine output will be lower than some reference range. Generally, don't try to diagnose yourself or other with labs without sharing a clinical history. ...Read more

Neurogenic bladder. Can bun 74 creatinine 2.5 values improve with b12? It went down to 44/1.5. Does the ratio indicate azotemia or urinary retention?

Renal impairment: While those values suggest dehydration, you could have more than just a bladder problem such as poorly functioning kidneys (renal impairment). Ask you doctor if referral to a urologist is appropriate - sounds like it is. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Likely ok: If kidney function and electrolytes have remained within normal range, your lower urine output may reflect a higher water loss through skin (sweating) or stool. You may consider increasing your fluid intake a bit although not perhaps necessary. ...Read more

Staying hydrated: You probably began your experiment dehydrated. There are of course "insensible losses" or volume losses that can't be measured-- mostly this is from the humidified breath. That can amount to 0.5 L right there. You also lose water in the stool... You could account for that. Try the experiment when your urine is clear- when you are not mildly dehydrated. I think you will get better results. ...Read more

Should: In some adults, recurrent utis may cause scarring in the kidneys, which over time can lead to renal hypertension and eventual kidney failure. Recurrent urinary tract infections, even in the kidney, almost never lead to progressive kidney damage in otherwise healthy women. ...Read more

Seems a bit high,,: You are a big man, and your creatinine can be higher due to a large proportion of muscle mass in your body which is likely since you are large. It may also be higher from impaired renal function, and other lab readings, like BUN (blood urinary nitrogen), and sodium would indicate this, along with symptoms like edema or swelling in extremities. See your doctor for a complete work-up to be sure. ...Read more
