How to interpret urine culture/ urinalysis?

How to interpret urine culture/ urinalysis?

Normal ranges: The urinalysis report should contain a normal reference range for each item tested. If there are any tests that fall out of that range, it will be flagged as abnormal. As far as a urine culture is concerned, if the specimen was collected correctly, any bacteria found would be considered abnormal and should probably be treated, especially if you have symptoms of a urinary tract infection. ...Read more

If my urinalysis was normal can a urine culture still show I have a uti?

Yes: Because of this relative insensitivity of dipstick urinalysis, the absence of leukocyte esterase (let) does not rule out urinary tract infection (uti). Similarly, and more common, a positive let on dipstick does not always indicate the presence of a uti. A urine culture should generally be done when symptoms suggest the presence of a UTI regardless of the urinalysis results. ...Read more

During a routine checkup, my urinalysis showed elevated wbc, negative urine culture, no symptoms. What may the cause be?

Various Causes.: Having WBCs in your urine without symptoms is described as sterile pyuria. This depends also on how many WBCs are present. This can be due to many conditions including contamination, various infections including STIs, inflammatory conditions etc. I would discuss with your provider and have them review your full urinalysis to see if there are any other abnormalities present and review your history. ...Read more

Burning feeling all day after bowel movement and ejaculation? Urinalysis and Urine Culture Test clear. Issues from 6 years after varicolectomy. Solution

Diagnosis first: In such a situation, one can ask for a Voiding Cystourethrogram (VCUG) and for an Abdominal + Bladder ultrasound scan. 3 weeks into Doxycycline I have stabbing bladder pain when bladder is full. Do I need complete urinalysis and urine culture? Perhaps bacteria/protozoans/fungi not susceptible to doxy have grown unopposed?

Why on doxy?: I'm curious: why have you been on doxy for 3wks? I'm assuming that it is either for acne or for prostate infection. If for acne, recommend switching to another antibiotic and seeing if doc will write you something to treat yeast (Candida). Diflucan (fluconazole) once or twice weekly for 2-4 weeks will help...compounded nystatin is better. If taking for prostate the prostate prob may be causing symptoms. ...Read more

Had UA, bacteria many, WBC 2-4. Urine culture last july negative. No exposure, no pain at all. Urine HS strong smell. Help?

Smelly urine: Urine is created by a filtering process-the kidneys are constantly clearing the blood of impurities. Thus, urine may pick up a certain smells depending on what we've consumed. Ever smell your pee after eating asparagus? Some people don't drink enough so the urine can be concentrated and odorous. Too many vitamins might do it too. I would drink 8 glasses of water a day-at least. See MD if no better ...Read more

What does RbC 7mm3 and WBC 22mm3 in urine analysis for. 65 years old woman mean? Urine culture was done also, no growth.

Urinalysis: This probably means absolutely nothing, but the numbers and the way you express them suggests that you are not recording them correctly. Without knowing what your symptoms are or why the UA was done it is impossible to know what else you should do. Would also need to know how this was collected because in women results may be skewed by vaginal discharge contamination. ...Read more
