Had a urinalysis with microscopic exam: Leukocytes Ester: Moderate, Bacteria, urine: OCC, Epethelial Cells, urine: Rare. What does it mean?
Does an urinalysis report of: leukocyte esterase 1+, urine WBC 6-10 and squamous epithelial cells 0-5 mean an infection?
Not necessarily: Voided (vs. catheterized) urine specimens in women are potentially subject to contamination. Urine culture is the definitive method of determining the presence of infection. Another important point is that in older women in the absence of symptoms, this kind of urine abnormality alone or even a positive culture should not be treated with antibiotics (asymptomatic bacteriuria). ...Read more
Urologist testing showed slight bladder irritation kink in ureter for micro blood. Recent urinalysis showed leukcocyte esterase no infection. Cause?
Urinalysis: Leucocyte esterase comes from white blood cells - infection fighters. Having these cells in your urine when there is no infection likely means that they are coming from the area surrounding your urethra - vagina, vulva as possibilities - if this was a specimen collected by urinating in a cup. If they are in cathed urine then they were either in your bladder or snuck on to the catheter mistakenly. ...Read more
