What's the treatment for ureaplasma? And recurrent gardnerella infection?

What's the treatment for ureaplasma? And recurrent gardnerella infection?

Bacterial vaginosis?: Ureaplasma is normal in female genital tract, rarely any need to test and if a test is positive, usually no treatment required. Gardnerella is also normal, but "recurrent gardnerella infection" suggests bacterial vaginosis. BV is overgrowth of mostly normal bacteria, including Gardnerella. The usual treatment is metronidazole (Flagyl®) by mouth. No other antibiotic is needed because of Ureaplasma. ...Read more

Can I smoke marijuana while taking doksycykline as a treatment for ureaplasma?

Bad idea: Smoking (inhaling smoke, which is full of lung irritants and cancer-causing chemicals) of any kind is unhealthy and bad for patients. There is rarely a need for smoking marijuana, but some people want to and like to smoke pot. However, if one's doctor has prescribed weed as a medical treatment, the risks and benefits will have to be compared. ...Read more

Female 41 yrs old tested + ureaplasma. Always uses condoms! Do I need to abstain from all sex during antibiotic treatment, or just vaginal?

Female 41 yrs old tested + ureaplasma. Always uses condoms! Do I need to abstain from all sex during antibiotic treatment, or just vaginal?

Sorry you got tested: Ureaplasma is normal in the genital tract, present in ~50% of all sexually acttive people. It is shared with partners (i.e. sexually transmitted) but only some strains are known to cause any symptoms, usually mild and only in males. Testing for Ureaplasma is done rarely by knowledgeable experts, e.g. in STD clinics. There's no need for treatment if neither you nor partner (s) have symptoms. ...Read more

Ureaplasma in urine last test. Not found in urine after taking one z pak (azithromycin) but found in vaginal swab. What does this mean? Does partner need treatment?

Here are some. ..: Ureaplasma urealyticum is considered as a fastidious & opportunistic organism "normally" residing in many sexually active but healthy young without symptoms, but has been known and blamed to cause male urethritis. and even vaginitis. In your clinical setting, it's reasonable to have him assessed and treat with the same antibiotic. Fore more specifics and controversy of this microorganism, ask Doc. ...Read more

Female vaginal swab test for ureaplasma was negative after treatment with azithromycin and moxifloxacin. But can it possibly still be in my urethra?

Female vaginal swab test for ureaplasma was negative after treatment with azithromycin and moxifloxacin. But can it possibly still be in my urethra?

Very unlikely: The way the organism gets there is either from above - i.e. from the bladder and then down the urethra and out to the world - or ascending from your skin, from you or your partner and then back up the urethra into your bladder. You state that after treatment a culture was taken and was negative! . So if you got it again it would have to be a new infection from either you or your partner! ...Read more

How long after the antibiotic treatment is over should you wait to redo the lab test to see if you still have an ureaplasma ureticulum infection?

No set time: The more important question is- Are your symptoms resolved? If so, there is no reason to repeat the test. However, if your symptoms of infection still exist after 24 hr of starting an antibiotic, then you should re-evaluated by your prescribing physician and if need be, retested.. ...Read more

Hi, I suffer from reaplasma parvum biovar 1 and ureaplasma ureaticum biovar 2.What are biovars.

Normal bacteria: I doubt you "suffer" from either of these bacteria. Both are entirely normal in the genital tract. "Biovar" is a technical term that doesn't mean anything here. Ureaplasma parvum is the same as biovar 1, and U. urealyticum the same as biovar 2 -- just different names for the same things. They rarely if ever cause symtoms or disease and no treatment is necessary. Don't worry about it. ...Read more

Can amoxicillin treat my ureaplasma?

Can amoxicillin treat my ureaplasma?

No.: Penicillin work by essentially degrading the cell walls of bacteria causing the bacteria to leak out cell contents to kill it.

Ureaplasma does not have a cell wall, only cell membrane.

So, penicillins are not used to treat ureaplasma.
