If someone has had a chain cough worse at night, laryngitis, and sore throat for 3 days, is this bacterial?
I've had a cold with a productive and raspy cough followed now with lots of sinus pressure and congestion for over 3 weeks. Sinus infection? See a dr?
See a doc: Because this is going on for so long, it's worthwhile to get checked. Antibiotics are rarely needed for bronchitis or sinusitis, but when symptoms persist for over 2 weeks, especially if they are getting worse... Sometimes antibiotics are what you need. Your doctor will be able to help you out with this one. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Having minor sore throat for a week now. About 6wks ago, had viral inf. in throat for 2wks. Whats causing sore throat now? Can smell mucus in nose
I was unsuccessfully treated with strep throat and now have a bacterial upper respiratory tract infection. Is this a complication?
Sure.: Once you have irritation from any disease and excess mucus is present, another bug can move it. Mucus is a germ magnet. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens quite often. Usually appears 7-10 days after strep (new germs have to multiply enough to cause symptoms.) The antibiotics that help strep, won't prevent germs immune to it from moving right on in. ...Read more

Is recurrent sore throat and phlegm from the throat, swollen lymph nodes in neck a sign of HIV? Although I tested -ve after 4,5,6,7 months w/4th gen
Negative test-No HIV: I would trust these tests - they are saying all the same thing LONG after some 'possible' exposure. There must be another cause for your symptoms - and hopefully your doc can get to the bottom of it. Sometimes it's recurrent viral infections. (esp. if you SMOKE or are exposed to 2nd hand smoke). Other times, it's lack of rest and the body just can't heal itself if you're driving yourself too hard. ...Read more

Sore throat, body aches, cough for 3 days. White pockets on back of throat today. Strep? Heat is the contagious time line? Have small children
Had throat infection and ear infection took antibiotics for 10 days. My glands in throat are very swollen and sore still?
Other cause: It could be your throat symptoms were caused by a bacteria that was not sensitive to the antibiotic you took, that the infection was realy caused by a virus, and that your throat irritation is not infectious at all and due to something like allergies. If your glands were really swollen and really sore throat, at your age i would consider mono and i would ask your doc about that possibility. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Throat clearing for 2 years (started after cold) and slight sore throat on occasion, could this be throat cancer for this long without getting worse?
Not likely, but: Since cancer worries are so hard to shake without facts - ask a dr to examine you and test if there is reason. Throat clearing can become a behavioral habit and that can maintain just enough irritation to perpetuate it even more strongly. A cbt therapist might help with the habit breaking. But do get a reassurance from a doctor so it stops gnawing on your mind. Best! ...Read more

Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more
