Hard to say: Unless you injured it, it would be unusual to have really bad back pain from the muscles in your back. Nerves "shoot" : The pattern described is commonly seen with irritation of cervical nerve root impingement, possibly c4 and c5 in this case. Brachial plexopathy can cause a similar pattern, but usually see numbness, weakness, tingling, or burning with this, often times the symptoms reported improve after the muscle spasm is treated.
