Upper Eyelid Twitch Causes
I have woken this morning to find my right, upper eyelid twitching uncontrollably. What causes this?
Myokymia: Random twitching of an eyelid, which is benign, is called myokymia (an involuntary, spontaneous, quivering of a few muscle cell bundles within a muscle). Ocular myokymia, is quite common and self-limited, it can last a few minutes to a few days. It can be caused by stress, dry eyes, fatigue, caffeine, and lack of sleep. Reduce intake of alcohol/tobacco/caffeine, get rest, reduce stress, tx eyes. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I recently started having frequent upper eyelid twitching with little swelling. What could cause this?
Left Upper eyelid has been twitching for two months. Can this be caused by pinched nerve in neck (also left side)? I also suffer from TMJ. Help?
Not from the neck: All of the movement and feeling in the face is controlled by nerves that come directly from the brain, called cranial nerves. There are 12 pairs of them, and they each do different things. NONE of these nerves pass through the cervical spine. Eyelid twitching, or blepharospasm, can be caused by stress, medication, trauma, or even MS. Dark glasses may help. See a Neurologist, Botox can stop it! Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have twitching in eyelids of both my eyes. Mainly lower eyelid but when I rub my eyes, even the upper eyelid twitches. Is this just dry eyes or more?
Twitching=IRRITATION: Muscles that twitch are telling us that for SOME REASON they feel irritated. That could be from excessive fatigue, from metabolic disturbances, from side effects to medications, from electrolyte imbalances, from lack of certain nutritional elements in the diet, from medical conditions that AFFECT muscles in general.....so many different causes. Impossible to tell whether rubbing does it or not. Read more

Myokymia starts and stops spontaneously. In the eyelids, it can last a few minutes to a few days. One should see an ophthalmologist (md eye doctor) if such symptoms persist, keep recurring, or are combined with any other symptoms. Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
My left upper eyelid twitches all the time. I get plenty of sleep and use eye drops. What can I do?
3 things: You probably have benign eyelid myokymia which is hyperexcitable muscles in the eyelid. Triggers include lack of sleep, stress, and too much caffeine so avoidance of these triggers may help. Usually this condition improves on it's own but if it doesn't you may be a candidate for Botox injections. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
