Everytime I eat I get upper chest pain. I do have a small hernia...Is that causing the chest pain.
Unlikely: Large hiatal hernias would be likely to cause this. These are also known as paraesophageal hernias. Small hiatal hernias are usually not of much consequence, but could get larger over the years. Also, spasm of the esophagus could cause the pain. This is diagnosed with manometry where a small tube goes through the nose and into the stomach.See 1 more doctor answer

Of concern.: If you are experiencing chest pain which improves with a beta blocker (metoprolol), there is a suggestion that the pain might be due to coronary artery disease.
