Depends: It depends in part on the length and severity of the pain as well as the underlying cause. Many simple cases are treated with rest and medications, more involved cases are often treatd with physical therapy or chiropractic. Thoracic pain: 27 is awfully young to have chronic pain without a cause. My first inclination would be scheuermann's disease. Not really a disease as much as a genetic tendency for abnormal, painful discs and kyphosis (or a stooped posture). Occasionally disc herniations may also cause axial (back only) pain.
