POSSIBLY: Usually a ruptured ovarian cyst causes very acute and sharp pain, typically in the lower abdomen . If this pain has always been in the upper abdomen, i would be suspicious of another source, such as gallbladder, pancreas, stomach, or even appendix. See a Dr: If an ovarian cyst is causing discomfort and urinary urgency, it needs further workup to ensure that it has not twisted or ruptured. Pressure on the lower abdomen probably means the cyst is increasing in size and needs re-evaluation to ensure there is no associated fibroid in the uterus. No: Birth control pills usually suppress the formation of ovarian cysts. Sometimes a cyst will form in-spite of the pill but they are much less common while on birth control pills.
