What is the life expectancy of a 78 year old, Stage 4 colon cancer spread to liver and lungs? Having chemotherapy (tablets) but losing weight.
Life expectancy: At 78, with stage IV colon cancer, the survival is about 4-6 months without treatment. With the new treatments combining chemo with biological drugs, survival times are in the range of 24-30 months. With a less aggressive treatment I estimate an AVERAGE survival of 9-12 months. Keep in mind these estimates are just a ball park figure, keep things one month at a time. ...Read more

How long can colon cancer go untreated once u first have symptoms of it...like partial obstruction and pain?
It depends on the location of the cancer. Cancers on the right side cause anemia before causing obstruction. Cancers on the right side are more likely to cause obstruction. Either of these symptoms is not an early sign. It also depends on the biologic characteristic of the tumor.

Perhaps??: There are many types of polyps, some common at younger ages, and not all polyps lead to cancer! Why would tumour markers for colon cancer indicate end of life when one tumour shrunk and another grew slightly. What would cause tumour marker increa?
Tumor marker for colon cancer had a limited use as far as screening or detecting cancer
but if patient had elevated CEA the tumor marker before surgery and the level went down after then re-elevated CEA could mean recurrent cancer until proven otherwise
but id does not mean end of life or it could not be treated
only in that special scenario should be taking seriously
your surgeon will tell you. ...Read more
