I found that my lower back was sore today while standing then found unexplained bruising along my spine.
Medical check up nee: You need to have a medical check up from your doctor. Bruising can be from trauma/injury but you will know if that is in the picture or not. Unexplained bruising indicates possible bleeding under the skin for which there has to be a cause. Your doctor can check/examine you to find the cause of bleeding which will require blood tests including CBC (Complete blood counts) and some special blood test ...Read more
Unusual bruising on spine. Have literally done nothing to cause a bruise. It just started hurting and a bruise appeared!
Bruise: At your age it's still most likely that you bumped or struck the area and just didn't realize it, causing the bruise. Alternatively, it could be a bug bite or, even more rare, this could be a sign of an underlying bleeding disorder. For now I would give it time and conservative treatment, but if symptoms persist or worsen then see a physician. ...Read more
My daughter has had what looks like a bruise on her spine for 2 months now. It's not discolored like a bruise, but its squishy when you touch it.?
Hemangioma?: You don't say how old your daughter is. If she is an infant, she may be developing one of the many types of hemangiomas, which are collections of blood vessels under the skin. There are different types - some are bright red, and some are not even really all that discolored but give that "squishy" sensation. They usually enlarge over first year of life. If she's older, then see doctor for diagnosis ...Read more

In the middle of my spine it hurts. It feels like a bruise but I know I haven't hurt myself. It's been like that for over 1month. What could it b? Thx
Varies: There are a number of possibilities. If it seems superficial and tender it could be a trigger point, which is felt to be an inflammatory condition or it could be a sebaceous or inclusion cyst; if it seems deeper, it could be a disc problem in your back. I would not hesitate to be seen if it does not improve. ...Read more
Posture?: The most common reason that I see skin discoloration over the spinous processes (the superficial bumps that you can feel on the spine) is from chronic pressure on the skin. This occurs from sitting in chairs with poor posture, essentially bruising the skin between the hard chair and the bone underneath. This would be an unusual presentation of a serious problem, but an md eval would be advised. ...Read more

Observation: 2 yr old with "bruises down spine". It is common to see minor bruises in this age group especially in areas that receive trauma related to play such as the extremities and even over the spine. Areas that are not exposed to trauma with normal play, e.g. neck, abdomen, chest, etc. Can suggest abuse or blood disorders. See your doctor if bruises do not resolve or you notice excessive wound bleeding. ...Read more

I noticed bruising on my 2-year-olds spine yesterday. She has other normal bumps and bruises from being active. At what point should I be concerned?
Depends: I'm not sure what setting your two year old is in, but bruises tend to be on the extremities and in easily banged up areas. If you notice central bruising or bruising that has a suspicious pattern or location (i.e. Shaped like a belt, or hand, or cigarette burn) those are obviously reasons to be concerned. However, if there was a history of innocent trauma, that may explain other bruises. ...Read more

I've noticed my 2 year old son gets these dime sizes bruises on his lower back and spine. Is this normal?
Maybe, maybe not: A rambunctious kid can get bruises on occasion over the bony prominences of the spine, shins, elbows, etc. These should reflect their activity and come and go over time. Bruises that arise over fleshy areas, unlikely to have pinched tissue between trauma and hard bone, are abnormal and a sigh of inflicted trauma or blood issue. ...Read more
