Does TSH 4, 83 mean hypothirodism ( underactive thyroid) and ft4 - is 9 ( does it also mean underactive thyiroid) ?

Does TSH 4, 83 mean hypothirodism ( underactive thyroid) and ft4 - is 9 ( does it also mean underactive thyiroid) ?

It depends/can mean,: This can mean under active thyroid depending on the ranges and whether or not there're symptoms of hypothyroidism, like fatigue, sensitivity to cold, and thinning of hair. The TSH is high normal to high at 4.83 if the upper limit is 5.0 or 3.0 respectively, while the free T4 is low normal if the units of measurement are pool/l. You've already got hypothyroidism so this would help reinforce it. ...Read more

Elevated thyroid antibody. But normal thyroid level? Is medicine needed?

Elevated thyroid antibody. But normal thyroid level? Is medicine needed?

Not yet: Anti thyroid antibodies are a sign that your immune system is attacking your thyroid gland. Over time, your gland may fail and them you will require thyroid hormone replacement. Your physician should check your TSH level periodically. When TSH starts to rise, consider medication. Antithyroid antibodies raise your risk of having infertility issues. Make sure your ob/gyn is aware of this. ...Read more

How dangerous is a TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) level of 0.06 uu/ml?

How dangerous is a TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) level of 0.06 uu/ml?

Not good: The exact answer depends on your general health, what other medical problems you current have, your age and the levels of the thyroid hormone ft4 and ft3. The cause of the low TSH is also important. In general, low TSH signifies hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is more dangerous than hypothyroidism. Death can occur with hyperthyroidism. ...Read more

Does a TSH level of 0.8 indicate an overactive or underactive thyroid gland?

TSH: Cant tell without the total T4 or free t4. Low TSH is usually a sign of hyper thyroidism if your thyroid is suppressing TSH production due to over secretion of thyroid hormone. Rarely the brain signal from pituitary can be low leading to what's called "central" hypothyroidism. ...Read more

Does a very low level TSH hormone mean hypo - or hyperthyroidism? T3 (liothyronine) is normal range, T4 is at the low level borderline.

Does a very low level TSH hormone mean hypo - or hyperthyroidism? T3 (liothyronine) is normal range, T4 is at the low level borderline.

Low TSH: Generally indicates an excess in thyroid hormone. That may be chronic w/hyperthyroidism -- or temporary w/thyroid inflammation. See you doctor. If you're already on thyroid replacement, the dose is too high. If you're on t3, (liothyronine) get off of it as it can be dangerous and doesn't work well as chronic replacement. Use brand name T4 only. ...Read more

Hi.I've TSH 27.95 is it hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism?Thanx

Hi.I've TSH 27.95 is it hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism?Thanx

Hypothyroidism: Imagine it this way. Tsh is a measure of how much your body is 'calling out' for thyroid hormone. If low, your body is saying it has more than enough circulating thyroid hormone (though there are some exceptions to this) a high TSH can be thought of as your body asking for more thyroid. The higher the tsh, the more your body may be in need of thyroid hormone. (there are exceptions). ...Read more

I have hypocretin deficient narcolepsy which reduces TSH levels along with autoimmune hypothyroidism. Is the TSH test reliable to gauge my thyroid?

Not always: TSH is not always a reliable test, because it relies on what the pituitary thinks, but different tissues may have different sensitivity to thyroid hormone. In addition, some people make too much reverse T3 (liothyronine), (liothyronine) which can block the action of T3 (liothyronine). Google "stop the thyroid madness" ...Read more

Normal lab results, hyper thyroid symptoms. (tachycardia/insomnia) is Synthroid (thyroxine) or armour preferred? Possible adrenal issue?

Not for hyper: Adding thyroid hormone replacement to a hyperthyroid gland will exacerbate the problem. If there is underlying adrenal insufficiency, adrenal crisis is more likely to occur in someone with hyperthyroidism. Highly recommend endocrine evaluation if you have these issues. ...Read more

Is a tsh level of 2.31 hypothyroidism?

Is a tsh level of 2.31 hypothyroidism?

No: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your TSH is in the normal range. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more

My thyroid test shows thyroxine 13.3 microgram %, tri iodo thyroxine 1.81 ng/ml thyroid stimulating hormone 1.8 uIU/ml. Is there any problem?

Thyroid tests: These appear to be normal values, but you did not provide the normal values: the normal range varies from one lab to another. If they're normal, then you are not hyper or hypo thyroid. But why were these tests performed? This needs to be interpreted by whomever ordered these tests. ...Read more

Hi My TSH level is 6.5 is this hypothyroid or hyperthyroid. is this normal?

Probably hypo: Hi. In all likelihood, you have subclinical hypothyroidism. It would help to know your free T4. There are VERY rare conditions (emphasis on VERY) due to either TSH-producing pituitary adenomas or mutations in the thyroid receptor where elevations in TSH are seen and the patient does not have subclinical hypothyroidism, but playing the odds, go with hypo. Checking TPO and Tg antibodies may help too ...Read more

Thyroid gland is increased in vascularity suggestive of underlying thyroiditis..... Tsh is normal?

Happens regularly: This picture is encountered relatively often. Think of it as if the thyroid is inflamed but still has enough reserve to produce adequate hormone. It can be seen in conditions like subclinical thyroiditis or in hashimoto's disease, after the thyroid is "burnt out" and doesn't produce elevated hormone, but before the hormone levels become low. See an endocrinologist for more information. ...Read more
