If you have symptoms or sus[pect you may have it check with your doctor and it can be diagnosed by a blood test for thyroid hormones and TSH which is excreted by pituatary and is a useful test to diagnose thyroid disorders.

If your: Thyroid is underactive you will not burn up calories at a normal rate, and it is difficult to lose weight even with diet and exercise. Getting on the correct dose of brand name T4 replacement and restoring your thyroid levels to normal will return your weight loss ability to normal as well. You'll still need to eat less and exercise more, however.
