Push fluids!: This was poor advice and is a reminder you can't trust everything you read online! What you are experiencing is what would be expected even with diluted bleach. If you can swallow, keep drinking water or milk. If you can't swallow or symptoms worsen, go to Emergency Room immediately. You may need a nasogastric tube and IV fluids. It will heal soon: You can take a couple of tylenols (acetaminophen) as needed (6 hourly). This will relieve the soreness. Also use mouth rinses with lukewarm water to keep it clean. The swelling will go away and it should begin healing in 24-48 hours. Such cuts on the tongue are completely healed in 4-5 days.
