Umbilical Hernia Repair With Mesh
Yes, mild pain: It is normal to have mild pain, especially with strenuous activity, at the site of an umbilical hernia repair for a few weeks after surgery. Severe pain, or pain lasting longer, is unusual. If the pain is severe, and especially if there is a bulge in that area, you should see the surgeon promptly to make sure that the hernia has not recurred. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What do you suggest if my child had umbilical hernia repair with mesh. now she is having unexplained swelling of lips and face.?
Unknown: Unexlained swelling of lips and face suggests an allergic reaction, and should be seen right away by your pediatrician or an emergency room. Whether or not it has anything to do with the hernia repair would depend on when it was done. There are no known true allergies to synthetic mesh products, as they do not invoke an immune response. They can have problems though, so call the surgeon as well. ...Read more

Stick with you're surgeon for regular visits until healed, or inquire about another opinion. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I had a laparoscopic umbilical hernia repair with mesh 2 months ago & there's a lump that disappears when I lay down like before. Should I be worried?
My daughter had umbilical hernia repair with mesh. now she is having unexplained swelling of lips and face. Could these be related?
Doubtful: It depends on when the hernia was repaired in relation to the start of symptoms. If the operation was yesterday, she could be having an allergic reaction to some medication. If it was months to years ago, there is certainly no relation, as the mesh does not cause allergic type reactions. May be best to see her primary care provider to help sort it out. Hope this helps! ...Read more
