Unlikely: As the repair was done 4 Wks ago, collagen tissue already formed which keep the mesh in place, hoe ever call your surgeon for a follow up appointmennt do not do any heavy activity till your surgeons clears

Umbilical Hernia (Definition)

This is a hole in the abdominal wall at the belly button, the location of the umbilical cord during fetal development. It usually closes by itself as it fills with scar tissue. Infants with a hernia here usually resolve by age 4-5. Adults may develop a hole here for unknown reasons, and will see a lump under the skin ("outie") where intra-abdominal contents have ...Read more

Yes: Mesh is the best surgical option for repair of an umbilical hernia. Hernias smaller than a centimeter can probably be repair with suture alone, but anything bigger requires mesh to decrease the risk of a recurrent hernia.

Is it normal to still have pain where you had a umbilical hernia repair with mesh?

Is it normal to still have pain where you had a umbilical hernia repair with mesh?

Yes, mild pain: It is normal to have mild pain, especially with strenuous activity, at the site of an umbilical hernia repair for a few weeks after surgery. Severe pain, or pain lasting longer, is unusual. If the pain is severe, and especially if there is a bulge in that area, you should see the surgeon promptly to make sure that the hernia has not recurred.

Umbilical hernia: You should be able to, but you might find the incision site to be still a bit on the tender side so you might consider waiting for at least another week or two.

I am having umbilical hernia repair mesh this monday. Plan to have baby after waiting six months. Can mesh cause problem for the baby..

I am having umbilical hernia repair mesh this monday. Plan to have baby after waiting six months. Can mesh cause problem for the baby..

Should be fine: It will almost certainly be fine. I have seen women get pregnant after mesh ventral and umbilical hernia repair with a couple different techniques and mesh and they were fine. Both mother and baby. You will want to get the operative report and discuss with your OB however in the event you need a c-section. A smaller mesh done with the open technique may be bwtter for this. Hope this helps!

Umbilical hernia: Does the site hurt, is it s red, swollen, tender, discharge? If yes call the doctor immediately in the AM. If not would still seek medical attention over next 24-48 hours, may be subclinical infection, or reflux, h pylori, as these entities would explain the headache (from reflux to the sinuses and malaise. faintness..

I have cirrhosis. I had an umbilical hernia repaired w/o mesh over a year ago. Now I have leakage from my navel. How serious is this?

Serious: The leakage could indicate an underlying infection and/or failure of the repair. I would definitely recommend returning to your surgeon for re-evaluation.

I'm 3 months post an umbilical hernia repair with mesh. I've had a small seroma and discharge for over a month. He has cauterized it &discharge is brown?

Old blood: It is very common to have some bleeding under the skin after an operation. That can collect there and is called a hematoma. Old blood turns a brownish color as it resolves. If it smells foul, there could be an infection. It should be healed by now, bit sometimes tales a little longer. Stick with you're surgeon for regular visits until healed, or inquire about another opinion.
