Umbilical Cord Fell Off But Still Bleeding
Half my newborns umbilical cord fell off however some still remains...I notice a little bleeding but it now seems to be inside like a deep red inside?
Umbilical cord: The umbilical cord dries up and falls off like a scab on the average by 7 to 14 days. I think the longest time that has ever been noted in the medical literature is 90 days. Think for a moment. Have you ever seen anyone at the beach with an umbilical cord? As to the slight am ought of liquid blood that you might see, the clot in there can liquefy over time. You can clean it up with hydrogen peroxi
Why is my two weeks old baby still bleeding from the umbilical cord after it has fallen off within the first week?
Not unusual: It is not unusual for there to be some minor spotting/oozing from the cord area even after the stump has come off. Thee were 3 huge blood vessels there and sometimes there is a bit of spotting. The second possibility is something called an umbilical granuloma, where a fragment of cord is still present and actively bleeds down within the umbilicus. Have pediatrician check this at next visit.
Most likely okay.: A tiny bit of pink or red after the umbilical cord falls off is fine. Keep the area clean and dry. Don't bathe the baby yet (most newborns aren't rolling in the mud), and if the oozing continues more than a day or so, let your doctor know.
5day old newborn. Umbilical cord residual dropped off today but against diaper friction. Bleeding a little, opening doesn't look unscathed. Help?
Depends on situation: Since the umbilical stump is composed of arteries & a vein that fed baby during pregnancy, it acquired a significant size. As the cord stump dries & separates, there is often a bit of bleeding. Usually only enough to cover a few q-tips. Local care as you would a scratch is all that is needed unless the bleeding persists. Occasionally the pediatrician needs to cauterize a stubborn bleeder in the offic.
My son is almost 2 months old and his umbilical cord fell off at 2 weeks old and now there's still a piece still a piece stuck what do I do?
Belly button: It is a raised scar from the healing process and will not be as noticeable as he grows
Half of umbilical cord fell off, the other half is still there. No pus or soreness noted? Is this normal & okay?
Yes: Just be patient, the rest will dry off and fall off

My newborn is a week and 6 days old and her umbilical cord stump fell off but at the bottom still looks open is this normal?
Call your peds: Sometimes, the umbilicus (belly button) doesn't fully heal at the base of the cord, so when the cord falls off, the baby can have something called an umbilical granuoloma - basically a non-healing wound. It's relatively common, and takes just 1 or 2 visits to the pediatrician's office to get it fixed. Make sure your infant is still eating, peeing, seeming as per her usual, 13-day self.
She should: Not look pale with separation of the cord unless she is bleeding. You need to take her to the emergency room tonite if she is breathing fast, labored breathing and looking sick. Or you can call on call doctor for advice.
My babies umbilical cord fell off today (baby is 1 Week Old). Do I put anything on it to help it heal faster?? The belly button is also outie.
Not necessarily: The umbilical stump is made to fall off - after it does there is often very little needed to facilitate it completing its healing. You can use a small drop of liquid soap (not antibacterial) to aid in the remainder drying out - but if you do nothing it will likely be just fine! If it is not healed by the 2 week visit - your provider will take care of the rest.
Not umbilical cord: You should get this checked. It is impossible to know without seeing it, but since the umbilical cord has long since dried up and has become a ligament running along the inside of your abdominal wall called the medial umbilical ligament, it is unlikely to be the cord itself, but it may be a remnant of something else.
Umbilical hernia: It is not possible for there still to be a piece of your umbilical cord in your navel. However, it is possible that there is a small umbilical granuloma or hernia. Go to a physician to figure out what exactly it is.
When should the umbilical cord stump fall off? My baby is 15 days old and it's still firmly attached. I'm starting to worry it won't ever fall off.
Is there a such thing as the stretches? Babies getting it, held by someone on their period, umbilical cord still on?
No there is no probl: There is no thing like that. If some one is having periods it does not make them any different than others. They can hold the baby without any problem. It may be a superstition by some.
Belly button: The belly button represents the remnant of the blood vessels that attached the fetus to the mother as its source of nourishment.
My newborn's umbilical cord stump just fell off. There is what looks like pus where the cord was. How should I treat this? Can I tub bathe her?
Umbilical stump: You can wash the cord area with soap and water during a tub bath and dry it up with a q-tip. You can also just wipe the umbilical stump with alcohol. Sometimes that area may not dry up quickly so your pediatrician may cauterize it with a silver nitrate stick.See 1 more doctor answer

My son is 2 weeks old and his umbilical cord is half way off but his wound still looks fresh. I s this ok or should I call his doctor?
Totally normal: As the cord pulls away, it can be moist looking for a few days and even bleed a little bit - all normal. It will dry up within a few days. Notify doctor if pus drains from site or if redness around the actual belly button area, or if it smells really bad. If it's not drying up in a few days, may have a little bit left over called a granuloma - then doc might need to dry it up a bit.See 2 more doctor answers
Is it ok to use hydrogen peroxide to clean my newborns umbilical cord if its hanging off with a little yellow still inside? It also has a odor
Yes: Peroxide can be helpful if used correctly. Direct application followed by drying the area is a good way to kill staph germs and rinse the area. Peroxide turns to water as it bubbles off oxygen. If you leave it wet the area becomes soggy and interferes with the drying that needs to take place. Rubbing alcohol is also helpful and has a natural drying effect as it evaporates after application.See 1 more doctor answer
