Gestational sac and tiny fetal pole seen on transvaginal ultrasound at 5w3d. However, no mention of the yolk sac. Note said early or abnormal preg. ?

Hard to say: It is normal to see a yolk sac at 5 1/2 weeks but often one does not see a fetal pole by then. I would not be concerned yet. I presume your doc plans to recheck this is in a week and he/she will have a better idea then. ...Read more

Both foetal kidneys show mild dilation of pelvis measuring 4-5 mm showed up in 26 week fetus ultrasound Should i be worried?

Both foetal kidneys show mild dilation of pelvis measuring 4-5 mm showed up in 26 week fetus ultrasound
Should i be worried?

Fetal Kidneys: Would not be worried with mild dilation of fetal kidneys. This is not an uncommon findings, and usually is not significant. However, your doctor may repeat the ultrasound just to be sure. As long as your growth is fine and amniotic fluid is normal, it's not likely anything to be worried about. ...Read more

TVS done 7thday of Period.Myometrium show heterogeneous echoes with multiple small bright spots.Color Dopler show increased vascularity in myometrium?

Adenomyosis?: Why did you have TV ultrasound? - Pain / Heavy Bleeding? Be on results it can be due to Adenomyosis - a condition in which endometrial tissue grows into the muscle layer of your uterus. If that is what radiologist thinks, you may need an MRI to confirm it. Take Care! ...Read more

31 weeks ultrasound, fetus showed a clearly distended bladder, no dilation in kidneys n amniotic pool was good. Ultrasound repeated next day showed same?

31 weeks ultrasound, fetus showed a clearly distended bladder, no dilation in kidneys n amniotic pool was good. Ultrasound repeated next day showed same?

Not necessarily : At this time during fetal development, the urine output is very large. This large volume may give the appearance of a distended bladder. It is reassuring that the kidneys are not dilated and that the amniotic fluid is normal. It would be desirable to know the gender of the baby prior to recommending additional imaging which would have to start with an ultrasound study shortly after birth. ...Read more

Ultrasounds showing mass near ovary but CT scan was normal?

Ultrasounds showing mass near ovary but CT scan was normal?

See below: Ultrasound may evaluate the ovaries to better advantage when compared to ct. Occasional a small mass in the ovary may not be visible on ct. Also a ct study without contrast (dye) enhancement may not evaluate the ovaries well. ...Read more

Mass identified on ultrasound near intestines low/mid right side of abdomen. What would MRI show vs ultrasound? Had baby 12 weeks ago.

Type and possibly or: An MRI would tell you the tissue type of the mass (muscle, fat, blood or whatever) and also possible origin of the mass (what structure it is coming from). This is valuable information in determining what to do next to see what exactly this may be. ...Read more

Ultrasound showing a mass but CT scan normal?

Ultrasound showing a mass but CT scan normal?

Depends: This depends on the organ of interest. This is not uncommon with the ovaries and uterus as us has an advantage. This is same with the breasts as well. As for other organs in the abdomen, sometimes it may depends on the patient's body habitus or lack of intravenous contrast/dye that some finding may not be apparent on ct. ...Read more

Ultrasound showed a baby that had a large omphalocele. What is risk?

Ultrasound showed a baby that had a large omphalocele. What is risk?

Cesarean section.: Omphaloceles have a 30-40% risk of serious or lethal fetal chromosome anomalies (especially the smaller ones). Giant fetal omphaloceles can cause hydrops and preterm delivery that should be via cesarean section if the extruded liver is >5 cm in size to avoid exsanguination at birth from liver laceration. After "paint-and-wait" stay in the nicu most babies do well if no chromosome problems exist. ...Read more

TV Ultrasound showed 6cm solid adnexal mass but ct did not show it? Only Ct findings - fluid and/or endometrial thickening in uterus. Any explination?

Possible resolution: if there was a few days or more between tests, it is possible that whatever lesion that was seen on ultrasound resolved on its own. Ultrasound uterus and ovaries is sometimes a challenge based on intestinal issues and potentially what was seen on ultrasound could have been shadows of bowel. If you continue to have symptoms, repeat imaging in 4-6 weeks could be considered. ...Read more

No increased risk: the fluid index is a bit low but that is highly variable on how the sonographer displays the image. The other ultrasound findings would not confer any increased risk of premature delivery in the absence other worrisome clinical findings like maternal hypertension eclampsia etc ...Read more

Could a pregnancy not show up on transvag. Ultrasound at possibly 6-7 weeks pregnant? Like no sac and 3 mm endometrium shown on ultrasound.

No: There should be findings on Ultrasound at that point. They also screen the ovaries and tubes to make sure it is not an ectopic pregnancy. If you US is negative then you're either not pregnant or so early that it won't show, but that would be only in the first couple weeks not at 6-7 weeks. ...Read more

Ct showed heterogeneous density thyroid, ultrasound showed nothing , waiting on bloods how can that be ?

Ct showed heterogeneous density thyroid, ultrasound showed nothing , waiting on bloods how can that be ?

For their eyes only.: The heterogeneity of the mass may be such that it "confused" the ultrasound beams and they showed a bunch of shadows that were hard to interpret, while the CT may have shown more definition, being based on x-rays and a computer to compile the data.Of course, it's also all in the eye of the beholder and it sometimes seems like "magic" how some ultrasounds are interpreted (some CTs too, by the way!) ...Read more

Sonogram (Definition)

An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more
