An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

I have calcification on my thyroid and some in my neck mass. When I did my fna, the doctor only sampled the thyroid. Why not the mass? Same finding?
It depends,,,: It depends on other tests and what they showed if the doctor did them. For example, an iodine uptake test may be done for a thyroid with nodules and depending on the results there may not have been a need for an aspiration of the nodule. It also depends on what was being looked for, cancer or another disease so more info. Like the aspiration results is likely needed. Best of luck. ...Read more

Neck mass CT done told don't know wht it is no needle biopsy but surgery needs to come out Malignant unknown cancer not ruled out. Is this bad.
Follow-up needed: A neck mass at your age is usually an enlarged lymph node. These can enlarge for many reasons, but if the mass has not reduced in size (as it would during a resolving infection), it should be biopsied. Needle biopsy sometimes does not yield a diagnosis and then a formal node biopsy should be done. Also, your doctor may want to do a scan to determine if other lymph nodes are enlarged. ...Read more

Neck mass: The only definitive diagnosis of any mass is to have it biopsied. There are lymph chains in your neck area, so depending on where it is, it may be simply a benign lymphadenopathy, but again, as stated, the only definitive diagnosis is made by biopsy. An ENT Doctor would be able to perform a therapeutic and diagnostic excisional biopsy of the area if warranted after an examination. Best wishes. ...Read more

I'm having an ultrasound scan on my neck an was wondering Would an ultrasound scan be able to detect a lymphoma or an abnormal mass in my neck?
Hello I have a pulsatile mass in my neck. 2cm wide it s very painful and bothering. Years ago I had ultrasounds = 2 neck cyst. Is this the problem?
Need to be evaluated:
If the mass is pulsatile, possibilities include a vascular lesion (aneurysm or pseudo-aneurysm) or a tumor (such as a paraganglioma, i.e. Carotid body tumor or glomus vagale). You should consult, and have some form of neck imaging with contrast enhancement, either ct or mri.
That said, at your age, and in the absence of prior trauma, what you describe suggests a branchial cleft cyst. ...Read more
Small hard lump deep within neck for two months. Ultrasound results say "No visible mass. There is shadowing 5 mm calcification in the deep soft tissue of the left posterior neck, seems to correspond to a palpable lump". Feeling scared about this?
Great that you had it checked. Did you have any sort of prior injury to that spot? Even acne can leave a calcification behind after it heals. Did the radiologist recommend repeating the sonogram in 6-12 months? Might help to see if there is a change over time.
Don't worry, but do recheck it. ...Read more
My doctor said they found an echogenic mass in my fetus' liver during my 20 week ultrasound. What could this mean?
The ultrasound: Report should have provided potential causes for this finding and recommendations (if any needed) for further evaluation.
