Ultrasound Showed Baby
An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

42 wf. Miscarried at 11 wks. Ultrasound showed baby stopped developing at 7 wks. Panorama test was fine no genetic issues. Why did happen? Devastated
Not your fault: About 25% of the pregnancies are lost spontaneously, many due to chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo and many others for which a cause can not be ascertained. There was nothing you could have done. I am sorry for your loss. May He bless you with good health and a healthy baby! ...Read more
Hi doctor, my daughter is 34 weeks pregnant. The past 2 ultrasounds showed baby had sl. Enlarged kidney. Is it a serious matter?
Usually not: The enlargement can be the result of hydronephrosis, bladder reflux, normal variant, or rare cystic/solid masses. Most of this should be clarified with ultrasound after birth. The reports you already have should reveal the most likely cause for the enlargement. Ask your ob. ...Read more
How long until ultrasound shows baby sex? How many weeks do you have to be pregnant until an ultrasound can reveal the sex of a baby? Or is it even through ultrasound that they tell the baby's sex these days?
I'm 35 weeks pregnant but ultrasound shows babys head at 36 w, abdomen 34, femur 33weeks 5 days... Should I be concerned? ?
No: All of those datings are within the margin of error for 35 weeks. Dating by measurements in the third trimester is quite unreliable and as you see with your baby, can vary by several weeks either way. Congratulations, and you are almost there - get lots of rest and pamper yourself before your time is up! ...Read more
6 weeks pregnant with heavy period, hCG levels still going up and ultrasound shows baby is ok. How long should period last?
Light spotting on and off last few weeks. I'm 10 weeks pregnant. 9 week ultrasound showed baby and I saw heartbeat. Should I be concerned?
Call your OB: To make sure of continued viability, and nothing in your vagina like no intercourse if u are spotting, and you should already be set up fro another us at 11 1/2 - 13 1/2 weeks which is the integrated screen us, light spotting can happen but not normal if it gets heavier or u start cramping. ...Read more

My girlfriends ultrasound shows our baby's index and middle fingers to be seemingly too far apart. Was basically given a "it might be nothing" answer?
Betting it's nothing: I'm not an ultrasound person, but with our dysfunctional tort system, there's an obligation on the physician's part to tell prospective parents about everything and to "hang crepe" -- give the impression things are more serious so the parents can't say they weren't warned. This is not the sign of any illness or major birth defect I know after 40 years in medicine. Congrats on being a dad-to-be. ...Read more
7week ultrasound shows 1 baby and a possible something else. Blood flow is in 2 spots. Only 1 sac. What could it be?
Can an ultrasound show if baby has any brain or heart condition? Is there any condition ultrasound doesn't show?
Large changes: Ultrasound has its limits. It is benign and so does not use radiation or anything else which will put the mother or baby at risk. But it is of lower resolution than x-ray type scans. It will show major organ changes or failures. It cannot show any changes from most biochemical or inherited conditions. So for example it would show anencephaly (no higher brain) but not phenylketonuria. ...Read more
I'm 20 weeks pregnant. All test and ultrasounds show the baby is fine. Y em I passing blood clots, spotting, or gush bloody fluid?

Cesarean section.: Omphaloceles have a 30-40% risk of serious or lethal fetal chromosome anomalies (especially the smaller ones). Giant fetal omphaloceles can cause hydrops and preterm delivery that should be via cesarean section if the extruded liver is >5 cm in size to avoid exsanguination at birth from liver laceration. After "paint-and-wait" stay in the nicu most babies do well if no chromosome problems exist. ...Read more
Has any one had the blood test positive for Down syndrome but then ultrasound showed the baby fine?
Accuracy matters: The ultrasound is a screening test, and as such may over or underestimate the presence of what is being looked for. Accuracy is often dependent on the training of the tech and or who reads the study. The blood test is a definitive test, it is either positive or not. I would never rely on the ultrasound for any decision other than pushing me to order the blood test. ...Read more
Ultrasound today showed baby right on track at 9 weeks. HB 163. Baby moving and growing like normal. Sac measures behind. Recheck in 1 week.

28 week ultrasound showes my baby had big facial features like lips, nose, eyes could this b because its squishes to my placenta or uterus?
Did the doctor: Think this was abnormal or was this your impression of the pictures? The head/body ratio of the fetus is normally larger than it is in an older child or adult, so you might simply be seeing normal development. Also, if the tech was trying to take a picture showing the facial features, the rest of the body will be out of focus making the facial features seem more prominent. ...Read more
12 weeks pregnant and experiencing vaginal bleeding. Ultrasound shows active baby and heart beat. No cervix opening as well. Can you advice how I can stop the bleeding?
Ultrasound done last week I'm supposed to measure at 7 weeks and 5 days but the ultrasound show at the baby measured 6 weeks and 6 day is that ok?
Yes: The Ultrasound is more definitive and best for dating the growing baby. All should be OK. Hope all is well in Marcus Hook! ...Read more
Had my 36 week ultrasound and it shows babys cord wrapped around neck with a. 67 resistence index also a grade 3 placenta. How dangerous is this?
Snapshot in time: This just means you need to be in close contact. If babies been growing nl this should be ok. I've had healthy infants with up to 5 neck wraps or 2 true knots. They are worrisome and suggest the child may not do well in labor with the increased stress.A c-section delivery is more likely and an early trip to the l&d area anytime you think you are having contractions is worth considering. ...Read more
I am 22 weeks months carrying. During ultrasound scan. Report show baby's kidneys have mild pyelectasia measuring 4to 5 mm. Pls explain what it means?
Usually nothing: It means that there is a little urine trapped in the kidney. It has a very low association with downs syndrome. You should get a second trimester screening test but I wouldn't be worried. You should also get a followup scan in 3rd trimester to make sure the kidneys look okay but the vast majority of the time, they are. I would not lose any sleep of this! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. ...Read more

Why my baby ultrasound show less age then actuall age... I am 34 and ultrasound show that I am 32 weeks pregnent. Last mansual first date 29 march...
Don't worry: Was this your first sono? If so then your dates could be off. If your dates were confirmed by an earlier sono the fetus may be slightly smaller than average (half of all pregnancies are), or the ultrasound measurements may have been inaccurate. Your OB may want to repeat the exam in 2 weeks to check that the fetus is growing appropriately. We don't get bent out of shape based on 1 exam. ...Read more
33 week baby ultrasound shows prominent renal pelvises. Left 5.8mm and the right is 8.7cm. Isn't that a huge issue?
Repeat US: AT 7 weeks of gestation, the fetus is approximately a quarter of an inch in length, about the size of a pea. On US, several structures can be seen and at this age the heartbeat can be detected. It is too early to see formed blood vessels reliably. Repeat the US since it is operator dependent, when the fetus is a few weeks older. Thrombophilia can be a cause of fetal loss, but usually later ...Read more

My hcg level 28 000 and ultrasound showed sac but no baby er dr told me I had a miscarriage. But I am not bleeding or cramping could I have been early?

At 20 week ultrasound, the baby's kidney showed renal pelvis dilation with calyceal dilation at 6 mm for both kidneys. There was no blockage in ureter. Opinions?
No question here: If you are asking "is there blockage in the ureter? " then the answer is possibly. Significant dilation in early gestation increases this risk. It is important to know that dilation (hydronephrosis) can occur without obstruction as well. If the amniotic fluid is low, see a pediatric urologist for prenatal consultation, particularly if you are having a boy (risk of urethral obstruction is high). ...Read more
9weeks pregnant ultrasound shows twins. One baby healthy with heartbeat. Other baby stopped growing at 7weeks. Is this dangerous for the healthy baby?
No: At this early stage these findings are not worrisome. The range of findings at 9 weeks are such that both babies may be ok. Assume the best and relax now. An ultrasound in a month or so from now will be reassuring. ...Read more
