Ultrasound Of Kidneys Shows Stone (Overview)

Ultrasound shows the renal outlines, partly because they are surrounded by fat. Calcific densities are shown by us as highly reflective abnormalities, and there is not much question. The presence of calcific densities in the kidneys makes the diagnosis of stone very likely. If it has been there for years, it may not be important, but otherwise, have it checked.

Does a CT or ultrasound always show kidney stones?

Does a CT or ultrasound always show kidney stones?

No: Ct and ultrasound does not "always" show kidney stones. The resolution may not be sensitive enough to see very small stones less than 2 to 3 mm. Depending on the thickness of the images on the ct scan, a stone may be potentially missed between the images taken by the ct scanner. Ultrasound may also over-read or miss very small stones as well. Overall though, the detection rate is still very hi. ...Read more

Kidney ultrasound shows stones, what to do?

Kidney ultrasound shows stones, what to do?

depends on the size: It depends on how large the stones are. Very small stones should be able to pass without difficulty. Medium or large stones should probably be treated. If the stones are visible on a plain film xray, then eswl is a good option.. Very large stones may require a more invasive procedure. Either way, it is important to increase your daily water intake to 2.5 to 3 l. ...Read more

My occult blood says +2 but the rbc says 0-2. Which is more accurate/ Also had a cystoscopy which is negative and ultrasound shows 7 kidney stones...

Stones cause blood: Microscopic hematuria means blood in urine not visible to naked eye. Blood cells can break up in urine so that none or very few RBCs visible on microscopy. Presence of kidney stones in your case gives reasonable cause for microscopic hematuria. Worthwhile having 24 hr urine checked for calcium, citrate etc. in case there is metabolic cause for stones. Treatment will depend upon size of stones. ...Read more

What does fluid in the system mean after a ultrasound of kidneys?

What does fluid in the system mean after a ultrasound of kidneys?

Can't say for sure.: Your question is too non-specific. Exactly what did the report say? In what, "system" was the fluid? If you mean the renal collecting system then excess fluid could reflect kidney obstruction or infection. That's just one possible answer. ...Read more

Occult Blood in Urinalysis in November, Ultrasound of Kidneys in January showed clear. Am I okay?

Occult Blood in Urinalysis in November, Ultrasound of Kidneys in January showed clear. Am I okay?

Depends: Occult blood is not a term used for blood in urine. How much blood/red cell in urine and for how long? Occasional red cell may not matter, but persistent presence of blood in urine needs to be investigated. Ultrasound is one way of investigating but "clean" ultrasound of kidney does not exclude all lesions in the kidney and certainly not in the urinary bladder. Discuss with your doctor. ...Read more

Sonogram (Definition)

An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more
