An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

Does a pelvic ultrasound have to be transvaginal to show a 13 weeks pregnancy? Or can it be a normal pelvic ultrasound
Depends: If your uterus is tilted backwards and your doctor wishes to do a detailed anatomy look specially at the nuchal translucency area, than a transvaginal ultrasound will give more details. If it is just to check heart beat or placenta or just of remeasuring growth than a normal pelvic ultrasound should suffice. Discuss with your doctor. Good Luck and have an easy pregnancy and childbirth. ...Read more
Should be ok: Dating ultrasound scans have good accuracy at 8-11 weeks, so one done at 13 weeks should still be reliable. Dates by ultrasound are always estimates. ...Read more
Yes: The older the fetus, the larger the margin of error. The estimate is based on multiple factors, and is an average of indicators. This is probably a range of dates, and not really a concrete date. You really need to see all the indices. At 13 weeks, the crown-rump length can be off this much and still be within 2 standard deviations. ...Read more

1/6 risk miscarriage: 1/3. Bleed in pregnancy, 1/3 of those miscarry, 1/3. Continue bleeding and have a normal baby, 1/3 stop bleeding and have normal baby. There are no proven maneuvers to prevent. Early miscarriage but it makes sense to take it easy, no straining or sex until the bleeding stops and any clots have passed out as seen on ultrasound. Idea. When 1st trimester ultrasounds date pregnancy how do they base the gestational age? Do they assume conception occured on cd14?
US: First trimester ultrasound is based on biometric measurements only, the embryonic crown-rump length, which is extremely reliable when done by a skilled sonographer. No assumptiosn need be made at all. The ega is however reported correctly, by convention, from the first day of a hypotehtical last menstrual period; so in that regard it 'assumes' conception on cd 14. ...Read more
With a normal pregnancy, all ultrasounds including ones in the 1st trimester showed LMP 10/15/12. Could conception have occurred after 11/7/12?
Pregnancy sono: If the ultrasounds were done in the first trimester and all confirm the 10/15/12 lmp, then there is little chance that conception occurred after 11/7/12. The first trimester ultrasound is usually sensitive to +/- 3 days. ...Read more

Not likely: Ultrasound dating is quite accurate in the earlier part of pregnancy. While it may be off by 2-3 days it would be highly unlikely to be "wrong" by 2 weeks. Keep in mind that the ultrasound age indicates the number of weeks since the first day of the last menstrual period, not the date of conception. This may explain a two week difference if you arethinking about date of conception. ...Read more

Unlikely: Ultrasound dating is very accurate when done around 8-11 weeks of gestation. But, as always, life is not perfect and mistakes can happen.
