Symptoms: sharp ear pain unless taking Tylenol, (acetaminophen) throbbing, slight hearing loss. No fever or drainage. Slight sinus congestion. What could it be?

Eustacean tube dysfx: When the nasal sinuses are congested, it may block the opening of the Eustacean tube, which connects from the back of the nasopharynx to the middle ear and cause pain. At times, fluid may also accumulate. If there is significant pain or hearing loss, see your doctor to evaluate for a middle ear infection. Saline nasal spray may help to alleviate congestion without endangering your pregnancy ...Read more

Can pregnant women take tylenol (acetaminophen) sinus congestion and pain cold pills

Can pregnant women take tylenol (acetaminophen) sinus congestion and pain cold pills

Check ingredients: These products contain a cocktail of four or more medications--avoid ibuprofen, Naproxen and Aspirin in pregnancy. Tylenol/acetaminophen is fine, and I don't see harm with Guaifenesin or phenylephrine. As a rule it's probably better to just buy the individual medication/s you need for symptom relief, even when you're not pregnant--avoid these cocktails. ...Read more

Is it okay to take Claritin d with Tylenol cold for my nasal congestion? Nothing seems to be working. Stuff nose watery eyes sneezing headache?

Yes: There are no interactions between Tylenol &Claritin D. The Tylenol should relieve your headache. The Claritin-D should improve your congestion and cold / allergy symptoms. Is it dangerous to mix tylenol (acetaminophen) sinus congestion with beer and ibuprofen?

Is it dangerous to mix tylenol (acetaminophen) sinus congestion with beer and ibuprofen?

Yes: There is no medication that should be mixed with alcohol. The tylenol (acetaminophen) sinus congestion already has Acetaminophen for pain, so adding Ibuprofen to it should be unnecessary. It worries me when people who are sick are concerned about whether they can drink while their sick, and it indicates a focus on alcohol that might mean trouble. Most sick people don't want to drink. ...Read more

Should I be worried about ear infection? I already went to the doctor and got the medication to take care of my ear infection. But I have a bad cold as well and sinus congestion. I had to blow my nose and felt as though something was coming out of my ear

Your: Your symptoms are very common for an upper respiratory tract infection--usually viral and will go away after 10-14 days. An ear infection can also be viral or bacterial. If it is bacterial, an antibiotic should help it heal faster. Nasal congestion can lead to ear problems due to swelling of the eustachian tube that normally equalizes pressure in the middle ear.

Even after the cold has resolved, the ear symptoms can last for weeks. Afrin can help, but only take it as directed for 3 days. Then stop it no matter how your nose feels--it can quickly become habit forming as your nose learns to rely on it rather than its own mechanisms to decongest. Sudafed or other decongestants can help, but have the same potential for addiction (less likely than afrin) for those who stay on it for too long. ...Read more

I am suffering from dizziness and dr said it is head congestion. My cold is better but dizziness persists. I suffer from high blood pressure?

Dizziness vs vertigo: Depends on what you call vertigo. Is it sensation of "spinning" related to head position change or is it lightheadedness. Does it start upon standing up? Congrats re: alcohol: This is likely not from alcohol. You have a number of problems. Please see your family doctor who can do a full evaluation. I'm getting sick, really bad head congestion. What over the counter cold remedies can I take? I'm on 25mg beta blocker and 120mg of CCB for heart rate.19?

Wow. Complex. TTYD.: You're rather young to be on 2 medications for your heart rate. I suspect you have a predisposition of some sort. Maybe Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome? That needs to be worked out before any advice is given. Use HealthTap Prime or talk to your doctor for advice. Most OTC cough/cold sprays & meds have phenylephrine which can cause your heart to race. Saline nasal sprays are safest. Good luck. ...Read more
