Tylenol Cold Head Congestion Medication
Can I take tylenol cold, head congestion, severe, while breast-feeding? You most likely know this but it has acetaminophen in it.
Symptoms: sharp ear pain unless taking Tylenol, (acetaminophen) throbbing, slight hearing loss. No fever or drainage. Slight sinus congestion. What could it be?
Eustacean tube dysfx: When the nasal sinuses are congested, it may block the opening of the Eustacean tube, which connects from the back of the nasopharynx to the middle ear and cause pain. At times, fluid may also accumulate. If there is significant pain or hearing loss, see your doctor to evaluate for a middle ear infection. Saline nasal spray may help to alleviate congestion without endangering your pregnancy ...Read more
Check ingredients: These products contain a cocktail of four or more medications--avoid ibuprofen, Naproxen and Aspirin in pregnancy. Tylenol/acetaminophen is fine, and I don't see harm with Guaifenesin or phenylephrine. As a rule it's probably better to just buy the individual medication/s you need for symptom relief, even when you're not pregnant--avoid these cocktails. ...Read more

Yes: There is no medication that should be mixed with alcohol. The tylenol (acetaminophen) sinus congestion already has Acetaminophen for pain, so adding Ibuprofen to it should be unnecessary. It worries me when people who are sick are concerned about whether they can drink while their sick, and it indicates a focus on alcohol that might mean trouble. Most sick people don't want to drink. ...Read more

Should I be worried about ear infection? I already went to the doctor and got the medication to take care of my ear infection. But I have a bad cold as well and sinus congestion. I had to blow my nose and felt as though something was coming out of my ear
Your symptoms are very common for an upper respiratory tract infection--usually viral and will go away after 10-14 days. An ear infection can also be viral or bacterial. If it is bacterial, an antibiotic should help it heal faster. Nasal congestion can lead to ear problems due to swelling of the eustachian tube that normally equalizes pressure in the middle ear.
Even after the cold has resolved, the ear symptoms can last for weeks. Afrin can help, but only take it as directed for 3 days. Then stop it no matter how your nose feels--it can quickly become habit forming as your nose learns to rely on it rather than its own mechanisms to decongest. Sudafed or other decongestants can help, but have the same potential for addiction (less likely than afrin) for those who stay on it for too long. ...Read more
