My 8 month old has had a high fever of 102.3 for 3 days. Been using motrin and tylenol (acetaminophen) fever only breaks to 100. now its 95.9?

Doubt this?: Either the thermometer is wrong or the med did work. The thing to note is how is the child doing.?
The child should be taken to the pediatrician to make sure there is nothing that needs treated. The point is treat the child and not the temp only. I suspect the child will be fine. Still needs to see the doc ...Read more

My 2 year old has had a fever for 4 days now. I have treated her with motrin and tylenol (acetaminophen). The fever has gone from 99.1 to 102.4?

Time to see doctor: I'm not sure exactly what your question is, but it sounds like she needs to be seen if she's had fever over 102 for four days.
If you're unable to get her temperature down, recheck the doses of medicine you're giving her. Remember that fever can be helpful in fighting infection, so if she's 101 but acting fine, you don't need to treat it. Fluids will help. Keep her loosely dressed. ...Read more

I have had fever for 4 days breaks when I take motrin and tylenol (acetaminophen). My fever broke again approx 2 hours ago temp now is 95.8 with sweating?

See your FamilyDoc: So the good news is that Motrin & Tylenol (acetaminophen) can break your fever. The bad news is that you're still sick after 4 days. Best recommendation I can make is to see your Family Doc or go to Urgent Care or even Emergency Department to determine cause of fever & to receive appropriate treatment. ...Read more

My 4month old is running a fever no runny nose gave her tylenol (acetaminophen) but fever is at 99.5 was at 100 what do I do next?

Fever: At this early age (less than 6 months old) it is important to have the child evaluated by a physician when a high fever occurs. A fever is typically defined as greater than 100.5, a high fever typically would exceed 102. At this age when her activity and feeding levels are not normal or excessive crying is noted, she should undergo a fever work-up to exclude pneumonia, ear, or urine infection etc. ...Read more

My son is 95 lbs and 5 ft tall but is only 8 can I give him 500 mg Tylenol (acetaminophen) for his fever?

Tylenol (acetaminophen) dose: The tylenol (acetaminophen) dose is 10-15 mg per Kg of body weight, your son's weight Is about 43 Kg so 500 mg of tylenol (acetaminophen) is in the range. You can give him liquid tylenol (acetaminophen) 160 mg per 5 ml, he gets 2.75 tsp every 4- 6 hours for fever or pain as needed. I hope that answers your question. Best wishes. ...Read more

Can I take arthrotec for back pain and tylenol (acetaminophen) to reduce fever at the same time?

Can I take arthrotec for back pain and tylenol (acetaminophen) to reduce fever at the same time?

Shouldn't need to: Although technically, you can take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug like Arthrotec and Tylenol (acetaminophen) at the same time as they have no significant interactions, it should not be necessary. The Arthrotec you take for your back pain should also reduce your fever. The fewer medicines you take to accomplish your goal, the better off your detoxification systems (liver & kidneys) will be. ...Read more

My 3 yr old has a fever of 101.2 tylenol (acetaminophen) not bringing it down very lathargic should I take her to er? Can givin tylenol (acetaminophen) w/a fever cause siezures?

Fever, swollenglands: Your child has a low fever so do not panic. As a matter of fact, fever is the body's way of fighting an infection. If your child is comfortable and not lethargic with a temp of 101, you may opt to defer giving a fever-reducer until it reaches 102. There's no need to go to the ed now. It's not the height of the fever that causes a seizure - it's rapid rise or fall of the temperature that causes it. ...Read more

My 11 month old son has been running a fever for the past 4 days. Highest temp has been 101.2. Motrin and tylenol (acetaminophen) break the fever, but it keeps coming back. He is teething. Should we take him to a doc?

My 11 month old son has been running a fever for the past 4 days. Highest temp has been 101.2. Motrin and tylenol (acetaminophen) break the fever, but it keeps coming back. He is teething. Should we take him to a doc?

Teething Help: Many infants show signs of distress during teething. The exact mechanism these symptoms occur during teething is not known, but the correlation of these stress symptoms with a tooth erupting remain high. Ibuprofen, cold teething rings and/or camilia can help. Try to keep fluid intake high. Ibuprophen will help with the elevated temp. And with discomfort. If it doesn't improve see your pediatrician. ...Read more

14month old son. How much Tylenol (acetaminophen) to give when fever? Current temp is 99.8

14month old son. How much Tylenol (acetaminophen) to give when fever? Current temp is 99.8

What weight?: To give the most precise dose you need to do it based on weight. Typically for tylenol (acetaminophen) you want to give 10-15 mg/kg per dose every 4-6 hrs as needed. However, I don't think your child needs tylenol (acetaminophen) for a temp of 99.8. Of course if your child looks uncomfortable you can try a dose. ...Read more

What is the purpose of alternating Advil and tylenol (acetaminophen) to reduce a fever?

Not specific.: No purpose, both have antipyretic properties, both may reduce your fever. Some prefer tylenol, (acetaminophen) others prefer advil. Both have side effects if taken high doses and frequently. For short term basis is ok until seen by your doctor to find out cause of fever, if it persists. ...Read more

My friend's daughter has pneumonia and she has taking tylenol (acetaminophen) but still has fever?

Needs antibiotics: Pneumonia needs to be treated with an appropriate antibiotic, unless it is due to a virus. The first issue is if she is on an antibiotic. If she is, it may take a day or two (usually not more than this) for the fever to settle down. If she is on an antibiotic and the fever is persisting for more than 24-48 hours, then she may need a different antibiotic, and should be reevaluated by her doctor. ...Read more
