Pink swollen eyelid, sore throat/cold. Dr said stye, but there is no bump at all! Just an overall swelling/pain. Incorrect diagnosis perhaps?

Hi, I lost voice after taking cough syrup but am also having slow sporadic eyelid twitches, are these related? Have tight chest and sore throat.
No: Cough syrup does NOT cause the loss of vocal function. The symptoms, except the sporadic eyelid twitches, are most likely the result of a viral infection. These types of infections respond to conservative treatment and your immune system. If the symptoms persist for more than 3 weeks, consult your primary doctor. I can not emphasize enough not to take an antibiotic for these symptoms. ...Read more

See a doctor: Without seeing your eye, I can't be sure, but it sounds like infectious conjunctivitis. the other possiblity, which would be more worrisome is a periorbital skin infection, possibly sinusitis and a middle ear infection. It makes sense to see a doctor at urgent care for an exam. Infections in and around the eye can be very serious, since the eye is so close to the brain. Anitbiotics probably needed ...Read more

Gonorrhea can live..: ....anywhere it contacts. If partner is or was positive for infection when you had relations & if exposure to semen was mouth or eye then, it's possible to have been infected in those areas. For 3 weeks I've had a pink eye/sore throat virus. Pink eye was gone for a while but has come back full force. Is that normal? How much longer? : (
Have it checked: I think adenovirus when I hear of pink eye/throat issues. This virus can cause eye redness for up to 14 days in some. The virus basically can strip the thin top lining of the eye off leaving it vulnerable to secondary infection/pain. Antibiotics don't help but may be used to reduce a second infection. I would see an MD this week to see what the cause is. Good luck! ...Read more
