Persistent yeast infection for two months. Now doc prescribed metronidazole ovules and 4 100 mg itraconazole for one day. How likely will this work?

Mixed infection: The combination of the two drugs indicate that this is not purely a yeast infection as Metronidazole does not treat yeast. Ask your MD for more specific information about the nature of your infection (s) and of course your above question as to the Rx's efficacy. ...Read more

What is twins with two separate amniotic sacs a sign of?

Diamniotic Twins: Twins that have two separate amniotic sacs are called diamniotic twins. This usually means that they are fraternal twins (arise from two separate fertilized eggs) but in some cases they can be identical twins (twins form from a single fertilized egg that splits in the course of development). ...Read more

Can being premature by two months and being a twin affect your growth?

Usually not: If you mean your growth as a 16 year old, most premies have " catch up growth", and are back on the standard growth curves by 2 to 3 years old. As long as the child doesn't have other issues, it usually doesn't effect the long term growth. ...Read more

If I am having twins, will I have two placentas?

If I am having twins, will I have two placentas?

Depends--eggs, split: Twins from two eggs have two placentas (occasionally appear fused). Some twins from one egg have two and some have only one placental mass, even though there may be two amniotic sacs.
In the past placentas were evaluated at delivery. Now we can learn lots by ultrasound. Occasionally additional testing is needed after delivery to determine if one placental mass or two closely positioned placentas. ...Read more

If he checks out reproductively, then you will need to see your Gyn or be referred to a Fertility Medicine specialist for exam, blood tests and likely a hystero-salpingogram (HSG) to see if your system has changed. Good luck. ...Read more

Eggs splice, or the two fraternal twins suffer from vanishing twin syndrome and the twin literally absorbs the other twin, what does this mean?

Eggs splice, or the two fraternal twins suffer from vanishing twin syndrome and the twin literally absorbs the other twin, what does this mean?

Conjoined placenta: Unfortunately, the placenta often becomes shared between the twins and the one with the better access to the cotyledons of the placenta thrives and the other twin does not. An alternate scenario is when the two fraternal fetal twins are joined together but one does not develop as well as the other prior to placental development in the first trimester. ...Read more

My baby is two months old and I lost twins in August 2014 are my chances for multiples higher since I just gave birth?

Unclear: Are you saying that you are pregnant again now or are you thinking of getting pregnant again? It is not clear from your question. The circumstances of your fetal loss with twins should be investigated to see if anything needs to be handled differently in future pregnancy. Short intervals between pregnancy increases the risk of preterm labor. ...Read more

I have two uterus, does this mean I could have twins or triplets?

I have two uterus, does this mean I could have twins or triplets?

Unlikely: Most of the time you will only ovulate from 1 side at a time and therefore 2 uteri (called uterine didelphys) does not increase risk of twins. However, having 2 uteri does increase risk of preterm labor since the uterine size is usually smaller than normal. Make sure you see a physician experienced in uterine abnormalities. ...Read more

Is it safe to to take generic Clomid (clomiphene) bought offline to try and conceive twins? I have no medical problems and have two children? I am 31 and my husband is 36

Is it safe to to take generic Clomid (clomiphene) bought offline to try and conceive twins? I have no medical problems and have two children? I am 31 and my husband is 36

Clomid (clomiphene): Clomid (clomiphene) is a prescription medication and should be taken under the direction of a physician familiar with the use of this medication.

Since Clomid (clomiphene) has been around for a long time, there are generic forms of this medication that work just fine. It is a stable medication so it can be sent through the mail system and not lose its potency.

When Clomid (clomiphene) is taken, there is an increase risk of having a twin pregnancy. This is estimated at 15 to 25%. As an infertility specialist, I do not intentionally try to establish a twin pregnancy in my patients. Though the majority of twin pregnancies have a good outcome, about 5% of the time they have a very bad outcome. They are born prematurely. If they are born too premature they can die. If they live, they can have complications of prematurity such as cerebral palsy, mental retardation, blindness, or severe lung problems to name a few.

Rarely, Clomid (clomiphene) can result in triplets or more. I have seen this happen in a patient who took Clomid (clomiphene) on her own. It is always a good idea to take prescription medications only under the direction of a physician. ...Read more

Grandmother was a twin and had two sets of twins and father is a twin. (All Fraternal). had very early positive test and cramping. Odds of twins?

Twins: Even though you are more likely than the average women to have twins due to family history, the fact is that most twins occur spontaneously without a family history. Only way to know for sure is to test around 6 weeks into the pregnancy with an ultrasound. Would call your doctor tomorrow and ask for a serum (blood) pregnancy test to confirm and start some prenatal vitamins. ...Read more

I'm 11 weeks gestation midwife finds one baby two sacs I didn't have a full bladder. Return in 2 weeks for repeat I dr can twin still appear, concerned.?

Not likely: Unfortunately not likely given the gestational age. The only possibility would be if the baby she saw was much earlier in gestation (for example if your cycles are irregular and you are only 6 weeks gestation versus 11 weeks by your period), then perhaps something would be seen on followup. But if you are truly 11 weeks, then she should be able to see 2 babies at that point. ...Read more

Hello. Today I have had period type pains most of the day and have had increased bowel movement for the last two days. I'm 24 weeks today with twins?

Can be normal: Changes in bowel frequency common in pregnancy as GI tract is more sensitive. So long as no watery diarrhea it's okay that you have increased bowel movements. In terms of period type pains, these cramps could be related to GI/stomach or they could be related to your uterus. Since you're at viability I would go to L&D to be checked out to make sure that cramping isn't preterm labor. ...Read more

Is it ok to have twins in 5-6 week gestiona, one sac but no heart beats. Hcg levels, 51330 iu/ml and after two days it became 57396iu/ml is it normal?

Probably not: The HCG should double in 2 days at that point in the gestation. The example you give had only a minimal increase. This does not sound like a viable pregnancy. ...Read more
