Shoe Inserts and Hip: Subtle changes in shoes, insoles and orthotic devices can cause and help problems up the leg. If you simply switched an old shoe insert with a new insert, that alone probably did not cause the problem. My first guess would be that the shoes overall are beginning to break down and replacing the insoles was too late to help a developing hip problem. IT CAN BE FIXED: To be clear, you had a dorsiflexory osteotomy of the 1st metatarsal, and it was raised too much? If so, the surgery is essentially reversed to drop the metatarsal down. Ra 36 yo male not likely and it is on both side, bunion is a possibility. Usually if the bony growth on the side of the big toe joint its a bunion. Top of the big toe joint is arthritis.
