Had a tubulovillous adenoma w/hgd removed via right-hemicoloectomy. Why does a repeat colonoscopy have to be done in a year if polyps grow slow?
One year is correct: Colon cancer develops from a polyp with high grade dysplasia. A history of dysplastic polyps puts you at high risk of forming new polyps and the pace of growth is uncertain, especially in a young age group. There are clear guidelines put out by the american cancer society on the suggested followup for colon polyps. It depends.: There are multiple factors which go into this decision. Do you have any family history of colon cancer or aggressive polyps? I am highly susceptible to colon polyps & at 30 had a hgd adenoma removed, is a high or low fibre diet best for me to reduce frequency of the polyps?
More complex...: Than that. In general, high fiber diet (not simply bran or fiber supplements) may be helpful ( conflicting data). Adequate calcium, especially from dairy (low fat/no fat) may be helpful. Low sat fat (low meat, especially processed/sausage type) may be helpful. Aspirin or nsaids may be helpful.
