You postpartum?: Hi. It sounds like you're no longer pregnant and you delivered your baby. Is that correct? Autoimmune thyroid disease is not uncommonly seen in the postpartum period as a woman's immune system revs back up after delivery. You may now have Graves' disease or a postpartum subacute thyroiditis. Your doc may refer you to an endocrinologist for help with diagnosis and management. Good luck! ...Read more

Not True: Tsh is the first thing looked at during pregnancy and a goal of < 2.5 has in one study shown to decrease risk of miscarriage. Free T4 is actually not as accurate in pregnant women so it is recommended by the endocrine society to follow free thyroxine index and total t4. ...Read more

Hypothyroid.: If I read your statement correctly, and I'm not sure I do, you are still hypothyroid and need to stay on the higher dose. Your numbers are somewhat confusing, but with your TSH still elevated at 4.57 on 75 mcg of Synthyroid you are not corrected and should not go down despite whatever the free T4 level is. In fact if you were my patient I would have increased your dose. ...Read more

Consider followup: Based on the results you reported, you are actually hyperthyroid. If you are on thyroid replacement, you are likely overreplaced. However, it may be limited to interpret the labs accurately if you are take Cytomel (liothyronine) or T3 preparations. Your exhaustion is unlikely to be related to your current thyroid levels. Hypothyroid may make someone fatigue but hyperthyroid state does not. ...Read more
