Tsh Results And What They Mean
Incomplete info: You have not provided the units of measure nor the reference range for the lab. It is likely that the result is within normal limits. All lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the test is usually in the best position to do that. ...Read more
Need units: Normal ranges for thyroid labs are determined by the lab that runs them and depend on the units of measure (e.g. Mg/dl) used. ...Read more
Is FT4 correct?: Your TSH appears normal. Did you have a typp with the ft4, as a value of 15 is an order of magnitude too high. 1.5 would be normal. Another possibility is that the 15 is a T4 not a ft4. Either way, it's hard to tell but probably normal. Check w/your doctor. ...Read more
I picked up my tsh-3 results and comes out 0.010 ranges are from 0.400 to 4.000 what does it mean? I took it at 7:30 pm and I don't drink any pills.
Hi I got blood results back today, they are: tsh 7.52 3t4 13.1 I do not know what this means and it has not been explained to me. Can you help please?
Hypothyroid: The TSH is high, and that usually means the thyroid gland is not making enough hormone. The pitutiary gland is making more of a protein [thyroid stimulating hormone (tsh)] to stimulate the thryoid gland to make more of the actual hormone. (t4 and T3 (liothyronine) are the active hormones). This level is mild, but if nobody has explained it to you, it's because you must make an appointment with your doctor. ...Read more
I had blood work done & my TSH results were 0.006. Can you please tell me if that is normal or what does that mean?
Not normal: The screening test is pointing to hyperthyroidism- high thyroid level. You need to see your physician to do more lab work and possibly a thyroid uptake and scan. ...Read more
HYPOTHRYOID: Your thyroid gland is underactive it is not producing enough thyroxine. The pituitary gland is working overtime to try to get the thyroid gland to produce enough thyroxine which regulates the bodies metabolic rate. You need supplementation of what your gland produces. You also need to be checked for autoimmune thyroiditis, see your doctor. ...Read more
This is a completely normal TSH. The free T4 was not done because the TSH was normal indicating normal thyroid function and the FT4 is not indicated.
There are some rare circumstances when you would do both, and not just the reflex, but in general a normal screening TSH means normal thyroid function. Anything else would specifically being looked for and thyroid testing can rarely be complicated. ...Read more
Thyroid results: It implies that your thyroid may be sluggish but the numbers are different for each lab so you have to include the normal range for that particular lab to have more meaning. ...Read more
Help u/standing results, pls. TSH, FT4, FT3 all bottom end of normal range. TgAb and TPOAb are neg. Have both hypO/ER syms. What could this mean?
Euthyroid: Your thyroid function is normal and your symptoms are not due to thyroid disease. Remember, TSH is suppressed by thyroid hormone so a low level means overactivity. If all measures are low normal, you're normal. You could have pituitary insufficiency, but that wouldn't give you sx of thyroid excess-just the opposite. ...Read more
I was diagnosed w/ hypothyroidism in 2014 for past 6 months my tsh value been 2 but results from yesterday say my value is 40. what does that mean?
2/40: That does not make sense. Has your doctor made any change between 2 and 40? Something must be wrong and your doctor must discuss this with you. A level of 40 is very unlikely. Please keep me informed. ...Read more
Hello dr. ..the result of my TFT are like this FT3=5.30 pmol/l, FT4=12.54 and TSH =20.180 Mu/L. what dose this mean. I'm quite normal I just hav PCO?
Under active thyroid: The most sensitive test for detecting thyroid dysfunction is thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). TSH is produced by the pituitary gland. If the thyroid gland is not producing enough thyroid hormone, the pituitary will release more TSH in order to stimulate the thyroid to produce more thyroid. Normal range for TSH is 0.5 to 5.5. Your TSH is too high indicating that you have hypothyroidism. ...Read more
Hypothyroid: Your thyroid is not producing enough thyroid hormone, so your brain is producing extra TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) to tell the thyroid to produce more thyroid hormone. You need to be placed on Synthroid (thyroxine) to replace your hormone and have your TSH rechecked in 6-8 weeks to see if the dosage is correct. This will likely be a lifelong treatment. ...Read more
If TSH is 4, 83 and ft4 - is 9 : does it mean underactive thyiroid - hypothirodism? Should I take medicine for hypothyrodism with these results?
It might,,: This could mean hypothyroid as the TSH is high normal to high and the ft4 seems low normal. However it's also the symptoms that determine the need for meds along with the lab values and unless you've got the symptoms of hypo thyroid like fatigue, weight gain, and sensitivity to cold it's wise to hold off on meds. You can also see your doctor for further evaluation and counseling. Good luck. ...Read more
In my repaort result TSH is 0.25 and also mentioned associated diagnosed :-hypothyroidism 244.9 what does it mean? I m confused what is goin on?
Hypothyroidism: O.25 mlu/l TSH level is when you are on 75 microgram of levothyroxine. Previously it was 27.9mlu/l when hypothyroidism was diagnosed and started with 100 mcg. Your doctor has to adjust dose of levothyroxine till your TSH is between0.5to2.0. The other number 244.9 is computer code for hypothyroidism and not TSH value. Hope it clears up the confusion. Thanks. ...Read more
TSH is 4.93, Standard Range of 0.27-4.20 uIU/mL. Free T4 is 1.19, Standard Range of 0.93-1.70 ng/dL. What does having these two test results mean?
No need to worry: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your results are close enough to normal that you do not need to be concerned. You may wish to repeat the test in a year or so to see the trend, especially for TSH. ...Read more
I had my thyroid checked and the results were tsh 1.02 and t4 free. 65. rechecked in four weeks. My tsh. 66 t4. 66 what does this mean?
Stable - normal:
the tsh - thyroid stimulating hormone - comes from the pituitary gland and regulates thyroid hormone production. Your values are splendid - Ideal is usually around 1.0. Any test has several sources of variability.
one is from the assay - yours are within the accuracy of usual assay on the SAME sample. Also the TSH varies from minute to minute within a certain range in all of us ...Read more
Repeat the labs: It's unusual to have both a high TSH and high t4. On the next test, I would do a tsh, a free T4 and T3 (liothyronine) instead to rule out confounding factors. Thyroiditis should give you a low TSH instead of high. If the repeat test is just like above, high tsh, high free T4 (and you are not on a drug called amiodarone), you might need to get a MRI of the pituitary. Hopefully it's just a lab error. ...Read more
TSH W REFLEX FREE T4 TSH, 3RD GENERATION (0.40-4.00) uIU/ML My results are 1.10 I had this test taken. Can you explain what the results mean?
Normal, but...: THIS IS A NORMAL THYROID SCREENING TESTS. There are rare diseases thyroid that can happen with an normal normal TSH, but you would have symptoms of thyroid disease or other evidence of central hypothyroidism or thyroiditis in a "euthyroid phase, " which would be rare and require much more history. If there is ongoing concern see an endocrinologist. IF YOU GENERALLY FEEL WELL GREAT, IT IS NORMAL! ...Read more
HI. I am 27 years old. I went for a thyroid test and my result was TSH 6.34 does that mean I have hypothyroid? What things I should avoid eating?
Possibly: A TSH of 6.34 is mildly high. This could indicate developing hypothyroidism. You should have a repeat TSH and a free T4 to better assess the degree of abnormality. Getting thyroid antibodies (TPO and Tg antibodies), may help to decide if this is a permanent problem or temporary. It looks like you have already started thyroid hormone, however, you may not feel any change as your problem is mild ...Read more

Took a anti mullerian hormone exam and I just read my results posted 11.42 level what does it mean? Tsh is at 5.44 prolactin 14.7
Hormone levels: Those are 3 different hormones. AMH detects the number of eggs left in the ovaries. A high number like 11 is good. TSH tests the thyroid and Prolactin is a hormone from the pituitary gland.
