My free T4 is high 19.30 pmol/l and my TSH is also high 4.530 mlu/l. What does this mean?

My free T4 is high 19.30 pmol/l and my TSH is also high 4.530 mlu/l. What does this mean?

Few possibilities: These labs seem at odds, with TSH suggesting overactive thyroid and ft4 underactive thyroid. Free T4 tests can be inaccurate in some people who have interfering substances present. Another possibility is a tumor in the pituitary secreting too much TSH resulting in thyroid overactivity, and high thyroid hormone levels. This is quite rare, however. Your doctor can help sort this out. ...Read more

Tsh high/ egfr low & slight hemolysis, what does all this mean?

Tsh high/ egfr low & slight hemolysis, what does all this mean?

Low thyroid : A high TSH almost always means that there is too little thyroid hormone in the blood. It would not usually cause decreased kidney function as suggested by a low egfr (estimated glomerular filtration rate) or breakdown of red blood cells (hemolysis). The hemolysis and decreased kidney function might be related however. Your situation is and complex and potentially serious - see your doctor! ...Read more

Will dielatin 300mg a day make TSH high in blood work and if so why thay keep giving more and more pills?

Will dielatin 300mg a day make TSH high in blood work and if so why thay keep giving more and more pills?

Faster breakdown: Dilantin, like many anti-seizure meds, can speed up certain enzymes in the liver that metabolize, or break down thyroid hormone into inactive chemicals. Since more thyroid hormone is broken down on a daily basis, more must be put into the bloodstream to keep levels up. The thyroid can usually do this naturally, but if someone is already needed pills, a stronger pill may be needed w/ dilantin. ...Read more

Normal TSH, high free T4 mild elevation , what might be the cause ?

Normal TSH, high free T4 mild elevation , what might be the cause ?

Repeat the labs: Hi. In all likelihood, it's a lab error or some trivial explanation. Repeat the labs to see if the lab profile is reproducible. Among the very rare possibilities that it's real would be thyroid hormone resistance, a condition wherein a mutation in a subunit of the thyroid hormone receptor is present (these people are euthyroid), or a pituitary adenoma that makes thyroid hormone (these are hyperthy ...Read more

Thyroid nodules: Most nodules are benign, especially if multiple. Biopsy by needle aspiration may be useful for larger nodules, though recently the threshold for biopsy was lowered to just over 1 cm. T3 (liothyronine) & T4 mormal, but TSH high 24.....Can be cureable.....Can effect married life...
?

May be nothing: Thyroid hormone production and control are complex. If your T3 (liothyronine) and T4 levels are normal but your TSH is slightly high, it may be nothing at all. Talk with your doctor and ask about consulting with an endocrinologist if this worries you. It is unlikely this will affect your social life. ...Read more
