Tryptophan (Overview)

Tryptophan is an amino acid. It is the precursor to the production of serotonin. The GI system will convert tryptophan to 5 hydroxytrptophan to cross the blood brain barrier and then convert the 5htp into serotonin. It does many other things in the body, but this is what it is most known for.

Difficult to say.: Some of that tryptophan will be converted to serotonin. How much depends upon the absorption and breakdown and the bioavailability of the tryptophan. Trypothan: Has been touted as a treatment for many disorders, but benefit and efficacy are not proven. Generally, doses are less than 1/10 of what you mentioned. Therefore, there is no data to suggest if that dose is safe, but even much smaller doses have potential toxicity and can interact with multiple medications and supplements. Doesn't matter: Since there's no need to take protein supplements unless you have endstage renal or hepatic disease or cancer.
