Sore throat: The epiglottis is the "trapdoor" that closes to divert food away from the voice box. If there is spasm in the voice box, it is usually the vocal cords that do it. My throat is really painful if I gulp water or other drink. Normal swallowing is fine. It's not a sore throat type pain but it feels intense.
