Tropical Fire Ant Allergy (Overview)

It consists of reactions (other than the typical itching and swelling at sting site) of any of the following symptoms: diffuse itching, swelling, hives, flushing, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, chest tightness, wheezing, shock and death. An allergist can order blood tests and perform skin testing to confirm fire ant allergy. Carry an epipen (epinephrine). Allergy shots can provide long term protection.
