My friend mmt(methadone) dr(not psychiatrist)rx him citalopram&s-valporate for uni-p mdd, its good rx?My psych advices bupropion on phone.Best regards.
Interesting issues: If you feel your friend needs to see an actual psychiatrist, you can encourage him or her to do so. If by "psych" you mean psychiatrist, you're putting him/her in an awkward position by asking for some kind of second-guessing on a patient s/he hasn't seen. If the "psych" (could also mean psychologist) suggests med changes anyway, it's ill-informed. His/her comments could also be misinterpreted. ...Read more

Ask the: provider who made the diagnosis which criteria were met. Is "pdoc" used as an abbreviation for psychiatrist or primary care physician? 17yrgrdaughter HS bipolar, add, premenstrual dysphoric disorder. On vivanse 60mg, straterra 60mg.Risperdal2.5.She is unhappy/goes off.Wht meds cd work.Sad?
Patients on: Stimulants generally need Depakote to help prevent vyvanse from effecting the mood. Risperdal is cheap, but not approved for bipolar depression. A trial on Latuda (lurasidone) with Depakote would be warranted in my opinion. Vyvanse may need to be raised and i wonder if strattera is really needed. Pms may be managed by Prozac only when symptoms are present, or through the month unless racing thoughts set in. ...Read more

Please suggest a positive (work?)book to help: born w/adhd, years of physical/emotion/sexual abuse by parent, now has c ptsd, bipolar 2, & borderline.
Possibility: This sounds like an extremely complex situation that would benefit more from working individually with an experienced psychologist or psychiatrist. However, the mind-body workbook for ptsd by block(s) may be a nice accompaniment to your own more individualized therapy. Good luck to you. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Friend asks: Is Prozac (fluoxetine) safe for my 17 yo daughter at risk for self harm, with eating disorder and depression? Does Prozac (fluoxetine) increase suicidal ideation?
PROZAC (fluoxetine) PLUS THERAPY: The most optimal combination for emotional problems is meds and psychotherapy. Dr. prescribed remeron to sleep, gain weight. in the past SSRI's intensified restlessness / compulsive behavior. Am worried about a new antidepressant?
Not good: This is not good long term due to tolerance and dependency. Unfortuantely also related to the long half life, there are residual daytime concerns. The sleep that is produced is also n2 and deeper sleep is suppressed. I try not to use unless there are other reasons to use this class of medication. ...Read more

Yes: Paxil (paroxetine) is an ssri antidepressant with a short half life of about a day. You can certainly experience withdrawal from the med, if it is stopped abruptly.
