Triglycerides Is 210 And My Ldl Is 165 Is It Risky

Need Particle Data: High triglyceride (tg) is often a marker for high LDL particle number (ldl-p). As tg rise ldl-p rises. However, when tg is high the amount of cholesterol carried by LDL particles goes down. This often results in "normal" LDL cholesterol (ldl-c) and low hdl-c levels despite high (ldl-p). When ldl-p is high cardiovascular risk is high independent of ldl-c, hdl-c, tg levels. ...Read more
Is HDL Cholesterol 35 mg/dL risky for 57+ yr female with total Cholesterol 155, LDL Cholesterol 97.2 & Triglyceride 114?
Types of lipids:
A triglyceride is a molecular frame that has three fatty acids attached. This allows the fatty acids to be transported through the body. Types of these include "saturated" and "unsaturated" fats.
Ldl is low density lipoprotein. Lipoprotein is a complicated structure of lipids (fat) and proteins.
Ldl is important, but in elevated or in a pathologic form is the basis for atherosclerosis. ...Read more
Fix causes, diet, meds: The first step is to determine why these values are elevated. Several inherited and acquired medical conditions may be present. Second, if related conditions are identified I would treat those while also starting diet, exercise and lifestyle modifications. Third, medications may be needed to further lower LDL and triglyceride to appropriate levels that can reduce cardiovascular risk. ...Read more
Trig and ldl differ: Triglycerides and LDL are different things. Trigs go up wtih diabetes, nephrotic syndrome (a kidney problem), after very fatty meals (if you ate for example a cheeseburger right before test), and high trigs can be genetic (runs in the family). U need a recheck of your triglycerides, and treatment if they are still up like that. >500 I usually treat, because u can get pancreatitis if that hi. ...Read more
What are the different causes of high LDL and high triglyceride and how to improve them respectively?
Carbs & Body Fat 1st: Keep in mind: LDL are complex particles with thousands of fat molecules (cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids, etc) per particle, ldl-c only estimated & often very misleading. My triglycerides level are 386, LDL 169 my age is 26, sex male, please advise how to reduce it and are these levels too high for my body.
Many Considerations: First, identify the problem. Possible causes include both genetic (familial combined hyperlipidemia, familial hypertriglyceridemia, familial dysbetalipoproteinemia) and non-genetic (insulin resistance, type ii diabetes, thyroid abnormalities, chronic kidney disease, alcohol) issues. In addition to lifestyle changes, factors identified should be managed. Depending on respose medicine may be needed. ...Read more
Not too bad.: Your risk of heart disease is increased a little over the average, but your 10 year risk of heart disease is actually fairly low. I guess 2%. Don't know your precise number because I do not know your blood pressure...Look at the Framingham Risk Score on line. Should put your mind at ease. Check your numbers with your doc so they can look at the bigger picture - Family history, other risks, etc. ...Read more
Glucose 109 fasting, 120 non fast. 39 year old male, 5'8" 165 lbs. 157 ldl, normal triglycerides/hdl. Should I be concerned about glucose?
Yes: Hi. If that fasting glucose is reproducible, you have impaired fasting glucose, and are at higher risk of becoming diabetic. Your BMI is right at the transition from normal to overweight. Asians have type 2 diabetes risk at a lower BMI than blacks, Hispanics, and whites. Do you have a family history of type 2 diabetes? It could also be type 1, which develops more gradually at your age than in kids ...Read more
Hello Dr, I'm a 50 yr female, my Triglycerides 100, HDL 65 & LDL 165, I have very healthy food habits & exercise almost regular. Do I need medicines?
Do further testing:
I would not advise treatment to lower LDL unless you have a high proportion of small dense LDL and/or elevated CRP and/or homocysteine. High chol. Does not cause heart disease; inflammation does but if inflamed then could use supplements to lower chol.

Low HDL: Low HDL cholesterol is a concern, even when LDL and triglycerides (tg's) are normal. Patients with low HDL and normal LDL / tg's can still have increased levels of LDL particles or apo b, and if so, may be at increased risk for heart disease. Low HDL syndromes like this are one of the indications for checking levels of atherogenic lipoproteins like apob or LDL particle number. See a specialist. ...Read more
Not very well: Statins are great for lowering total chols and ldl cholesterol (and some lower hdl as well). They Do not do a great job with Trigs. Would rec strict diet, exercise, weight loss. Screen for diabetes if it has not been done. Avoid alcohol. If ALL that does not work, or even if it helps - it is reasonable to try Niacin, Fibrates or fish oil. Only your Doctor can recommend what would be best for you ...Read more
That' a good thing: The standard lipid panel measures levels of blood cholesterol and triglycerides (tg). These lipids are carried in the circulation by various lipoprotein particles. Tg is used to estimate vldl concentration, while the cholesterol carried in LDL and HDL (ldl-c and hdl-c) is used to estimate LDL and HDL particle concentrations. High HDL is commonly associated with lower heart disease risk. ...Read more

This combo a concern: High triglycerides are a very common cause of low HDL cholesterol and in many cases low or normal LDL cholesterol. This condition is often seen in patients with obesity, pre-diabetes or diabetes (insulin resistance), and in combination with other cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension. (metabolic syndrome). We treat tg's if >500, but if <500, then target first the ldl, then non-hdl chol. ...Read more
I want to ask if the male & female human semen has small LDL particles and triglycerides? Many thanks in advance?
How many triglycerides and small particle LDL cholesterol are allowed for a healthy human being to take in one day?
My sisters HDL is 100, her LDL is 102 and triglycerides are 62. Is that good. This is fasting. She is 57 years old and in good health.?

HDL 56, LDL 93, Triglycerides 119. Is the triglyceride level a bit on the high side? Seems relatively high given my HDL and LDL levels.
Lipid profile: The basic lipid profile (total cholesterol, HDL, triglycerides, and calculated LDL) is a useful test for assessing the risk of atherosclerosis and heart disease. However it is only part of a complete evaluation, and must be interpreted in context of many other factors such as family history, blood pressure, diet, medical conditions, etc. Preventive consultation requires looking at all these. ...Read more

No medication...yet.: Some of your numbers right now are abnormal, yes, but not horrible, and in fact your triglycerides are much better than before. Keep going with proper diet and regular exercise (cardiovascular and weights), and I think you can correct these numbers without medications, which is always better. Your LDL is great, by the by. ...Read more

Diet and meds: You may have a genetic component to your high lipids, you will need medications, you can start with 4000 mg of omega-3 fish oil a day, avoid cholesterol rich foods, eat foods that help lower your cholesterol level (fiber, oatmeal, soy beans, extra virgin olive oil, nuts, and fish rich in omega-3), make sure you cut simple carbohydrates (sugar, high fructose corn syrup) and get tested for diabetes. ...Read more

Yes: Your lipid panel needs to be modified, hopefully by lifestyle changes, but you might need anti lipids, if treatment pending a concerted 6-12 month trial of diligent low saturated fat diet (less than 7 g sat fat/day) low glucose, 4x/week exercise (even walking briskly 30 min).
